Two previous examples of things that have made me feel this way:

I heard a news report about 9/11 and how so many of the people doing cleanup would end up with serious respiratory problems. But I guess it was too expensive to provide them with proper protection.

The lack of armor for our troops....

But this tops it all. I literally cannot unwrap my mind from it.

23. I was picking up my kittens from the natural pet supply store

today (I do adoptions form there), and the response from Katrina was all anyone there could talk about. The repug cashier was trying to rationalize it, saying that the NO mayor "is no Rudy Giuliani" and that the real reason for all the chaos was the Mayor's lack of leadership :eyes:. The younger cashier wasn't buying it. She shook her head and said "There's no excuse, NO EXCUSE! My GOD! I'm SO MAD at Bush right now-I never knew that I could possibly feel THIS ANGRY"!!! She was actually shaking when she said it.

A sad side note; they said that several of their customers told them that a news report today stated that all pets found roaming the area were being rounded up, dumped into a Holiday Inn swimming pool, and shot (for fear of disease). :cry:

What I really, really want, in the worst way, is justice.

In the case of GWB, it would amount to the same thing, I think -- if he were to get the justice he deserves, it would not be pretty.

What we are seeing is the face of class war in this country. It just didn't, seem, so, er, urgent, you know -- tens of thousands of starving, thirsty, wretched souls were left to fend for themselves while GWB lolled about on vacation, having none of the sense of import that he so obviously felt when Terri Schiavo was allowed to pass into the great beyond, peacefully, after 15 years of being essentially brain dead. And all the while the media are pounding into our heads the need for law and order, implying that the *real* problem here is roving bands of criminals...

And they will continue to berate us for bringing up tax cuts for the rich, harping that we are engaging in a "class war" mentality.

But ask yourself: would they have waited this long to mobilize aid if it had been 100,000 well off white people stranded on their rooftops and drowning in their attics...

I don't think so. The analogy to steerage on the Titanic is all too apt, I think. Let's hope that we, the United States of America and our way of life, are not in fact this era's Titanic, sinking because of the utter hubris and casual recklessness of its captain.
