MCI chief's severance deal nears $40 million

MCI chief Michael Capellas stands to land a nearly $39.2 million severance package should he leave the telecommunications company after its merger with Verizon Communications, according to MCI's filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday.

For Capellas, the MCI parachute is a much larger package than the one he received three years ago when he left his post as Hewlett-Packard president. Capellas, who served as Compaq chief executive before its merger with HP, received $14.4 million in that severance deal.

Man, if I quit or got laid off, I wish I could get that much...

But, no such luck. Maybe if I piss on the company, I'd get fired AND set for life at the same time - just like that jive turkey Capellas.

Wait, I'd be set for life. In jail, undoubtedly. Maybe I won't do any pissing.

Capellas probably would though. $40 mil is hardly enough retribution for how he pissed on MCI, a company I dropped a long time ago when they socked me $80 for a collect call I never accepted or was even told about either.
