remarkable - David Brooks on PBS admitting that he is embarassed...
by the performance of the misleader - said the picture of him looking out the window of AF1 was a disaster. He feels that this will blow up and cause a great shift - and I think that he is himself deciding to align AGAINST the misadministration...incredible things we are seeing.

1. David has seemed embarassed at other times
I suspect he's been on the fence for some time now.

This is the straw that may break the elephant's back for a lot of Repubs.

If this doesn't do it, I do not know what will.

2. Brooks is a good, honest man.
I disagree strongly with many of his conservative views and I think he has in many ways been an apologist for the Coward.

But this is at least the second time he has taken a strongly critical view of this administration. The first was when he acknowledged that the Iraq occupation was totally mismanaged.

8. Pffffffft.
One cannot be an apologist for Bush AND a good, honest person.

Brooks is a political hack of the lowest order, skilled at twisting words and weaving tales in the service of his right-wing masters.

15. Really? And how do you come to that conclusion?
Or... lacking a defense of Brooks, do you choose instead to make broad mischaracterizations of my state of mind?

And what does your post say about you? Shall I conclude that you feel anger toward Bush is unjustified?

P.S. Double-check the spelling of my username. That, too, is an example of word-play. Its cleverness or lack, I leave for others to judge.

19. I leave the hostility to you
myself, I prefer to hope that those on the right may see the light.

BTW, levity was intended - sorry (for you) that you prefer anger.

How's that working out for you? Happy?

Anger, hostility... What else would you care to project onto me?

Seriously, if you're having a bad day, don't take it out on me, okay?

P.S. And the phony piety... doesn't impress. :puke:

31. You are wrong
One can be a conservative and still be an honsest man. It just means that man has taken the wrong view..But attacking him personally is not called for

35. I'm attacking his political philosophy, which is that of Bush apologist.
Please read my previous statement more carefully.

Brooks' columns are routinely filled with half-truths and twisted logic. He is not simply wrong in his opinions... he is an active participant in promulgating great wrongs.

Is that a personal attack? I dunno. His own words speak poorly of his character, so I suppose the line could become blurred.

Why? Because it showed the one mile distance between Bush and reality?

25. yes - at this point i don't even care what the
political fallout is - if repukes scream loud enough, help will come faster. i heard local republicans today that seemed to have total eye opening events - a die hard elected republican official said today ... the scenes that i am seeing show me how serious the poor community is and how much they need our help to better themselves. I know we will disagree on how to help poor communities in the future, but damn... at least their eyes are opening.

23. There is no more "United" states
In order to seek forgiveness, one must first recognize one's follies, that will never happen.
This country is finished. The only question is the rate of decline. Game.Over.

admitting this, maybe there is some hope. I haven't seen one reporter or commentator on any station, including Fox, not outraged by what is happening.

29. Brooks has never been a "spin" conservative
like so many of the media types. He is an intellectual first and foremost and when you listen to him speak like this you have to think that something has changed in this country. We have reached some kind of turning point. Turing point to what? Too early to say, but I can not help but feel it in what I have been watching, hearing and reading

36. I think people across the country looked at that and said do I
want to be treated that way if a disaster hits my area. Next thought would be:what the hell's become of our government? People did not like the picture. Maybe this horrible tragedy will knock some sense into the people who are voting GOP.

37. This is like bush's Perfect Storm.
He's spent the last five weeks ignoring or smearing the mother of a dead soldier. He lost a lot of his base with that act of non-compassion. And just when that was about to come to an end, Katrina struck and once again he showed his lack of concern for anyone but himself and his pals. David Brooks can't ignore the obvious.
