Our nation is facing an issue:Are we people who help the poor, unfortunate
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 07:36 PM by jsamuel
or are we a nation that just doesn't care to plan for these people? This is why we are seeing the long time freepers and others start to criticize the govt. They see that they could be hit by a disaster and be treated just like these people. Even those who are not poor that are stuck there now are in the midst the same situation as the rest.

Are American's a nation of people who care for those who need help, or do we just not care?

1. I seem to have heard something.
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.

2. Americans as a whole are people who care ...
.. unfortunately, the thugs we have in power at the moment are have breathed such rarified air for so long that they have no idea what it's like to be desperate, and on the fringe.

They truly have no idea that, save for the flooding and the fires, daily life in the true rough and tumble inner cities isn't a whole lot different for alot of these folks than what it's like in NOLA right now.

So it will take US - all of us - not the hierarchy in their starched collars and $500-a-plate fundraisers - to fix what's wrong, not only in NOLA, but everywhere else across this country.

Just my 2 cents.

3. Where will the uninsured go
when they get out of this nasty mess with some sort of illness or injury? The problems are just lined up, one right after another. I hate this.
