What Bush Accomplished Today.
It seems to me the only thing he accomplished is pissing people off even more. I know a lot of people here on DU are critical of the coverage today and this evening, but what I am seeing is pretty negative for Bush. It looks like his photo-op today was a bust. The focus remains on those who are still suffering and how the government laid down on the job and abandoned them.

1. Bush doesn't realize
We are now living in a post-Katrina world. Katrina changed everything.

2. I think it really sucks eggs to tell people that help is coming when you
don't know that for a fact. I think it stinks that he said the people need to understand that this takes time when the last thing that they have is time. I think a lot of people took offense to him pointing out that Trent Lott lost ONE of his houses and that that house will be rebuilt. Let's face it. He blew it. He sucks as a president and as a human being.

3. A friend of mine said he also made a joke.
Something about partying in New Orleans when he lived in Texas.

15. This is no time for laughing.
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 11:44 PM by NYC
You know that. I know that.

Someone heard FEMA Mike Brown joking with reporters yesterday or the day before. The people responsible for a lot of this misery are laughing.

Thanks for the confirmation.

P.S. Aren't there still people trapped in their attics?

10. I kinda think you're right...
...you know, those of us who travel in this DU world tend to get just a little (:sarcasm:)frustrated from time to time with the MSM...you know, when they don't eviscerate BushCo the way we know they should.
However...despite not replaying the "Trent Lott's house" comment, or the joke he made about having too much fun in New Orleans in his youth...or not approaching him with the 'elephant in the corner' question: the diversion of FEMA funding for New Orleans....despite all of this and more...Bush has really taken it on the chin. Just imagine, even a week ago...the likes of Joe Scarborough and Newt Gingrich saying the things they have about their beloved pResident.

Baby steps.

11. Au contraire, he accomplished a great deal.
He managed to defuse Ray Magin's impassioned plea by being seen with him in a "safe" part of NO.

He snubbed the Democratic governor, Kathleen Blanco, and made thinly veiled comments about HER handling of the crisis, supporting the Republican meme that this crisis is the fault of the local governments.

He managed to step in, even five days too late, and make Louisiana look like a failure, and saw to it that "refugees" who were "abandoned" were bused to Texas, making Houston and Governor "Goodhair" Perry look good.

He got national television coverage of himself hugging black children.

There's a lot of criticism even in the mainstream press, to be sure, but the Bush team accomplished today what they absolutely are the best at: covering their asses and blaming SOMEONE ELSE.

He rehabilitated the bruised images of Trent Lott, Thad Cochrane, and Haley Barbour by appearing with them and praising them on television and taking credit for stepping in, just as images were breaking in the media of the long-awaited supply trucks.

Make no mistake, this was a very good day for Bush and the Republicans.

The only question is whether it will be enough to offset the anger, which for most Americans will be forgotten in about a week.

16. Unfortunately, nothing ever gets remembered for very long
We forgot too quickly about 9/11, we forgot too quickly about the 2000 election, we will forget too quickly about Katrina and all the things that went wrong.

12. Mission Photo Op Accomplished
A little caring. A little convoy shot coinciding with the caring. A little compassionate rhetoric. Home by 9. Tucked in by 10.

Another great day in the life of the Boy King. What's not to love?

14. More like "Mission Accomplished" ...
Photos have been taken and the aid to the Super Dome arrived at the same moment in time as Bush. So as far as Bush is concerned, his job is done. Everyone has everything they need. -

"Mission Accomplished" - Just Like Iraq
