A couple walked across the bridge
to Algiers Wednesday evening, took a shower, got in a second couple's car and drove to Baton Rouge, seeing almost no one else on the road, getting here yesterday afternoon.

Both couples were stranded at the Fairmont hotel. My brother, who will be living with me for awhile, was able to call them Wednesday and told them to leave the hotel, cross the bridge with the other couple, and drive to my house. I was out of town yesterday so I only talked to them on the phone. They found out where his mother was, went to her place not far from here, and are flying to Oregon next week.

My point is: if they were able to do this with no trouble whatsoever, why are relief vehicles kept away? There is an easy route available.

I am angry, very angry, but also baffled. What the hell is going on? Strauss, PNAC, neo-con, whatever -- how can they do this? Even a damned failed corporate lawyer appointed to FEMA for political reasons (remember Joe Albaugh?) can do better than this.

I also received a call saying that a very prominent NO resident has hired mercenaries to helicopter in and guard his mansion. I won't name him because the story cannot be verified right now, but my source was very reliable.

1. We need to call the UN or someone.
This is not acceptable. Period.

3. You need to send your story to the media.
The MSM, Randi Rhodes, Mike Malloy, Sam Seder...all of them! This is disgusting.

Peace.

5. Please call wwl they are broadcasting in NOLA and some
stranded people are able to call in. They will have the # on wwl.com.

They also say that emergency personnel are monitoring their broadcasts because people are calling in with their addresses.

6. I don't know what the situation is now
This was Wednesday night/Thursday morning. I've heard many stories of people being turned away from the bridge, yet this couple were able to get through with no problem.

I wouldn't want people in that condition to walk to a bridge that might now be guarded.

My brother talked about renting a truck to bring supplies to someone - anyone - but we agreed that at this point it is just too dangerous.

The people need to know the truth about why this horror has been allowed.

8. Uh oh
Mike Malloy just played a clip from this Shepard guy from Fox sorry I don't know who he is because I wouldn't watch Fox if my life depended on it - anyway he is saying there is a check point at some bridge in NOLA and they won't let anyone out - he stated this is the only way out so I'm thinking it might be the bridge you mentioned

9. If people only knew what i knew
I swear, after having been thru the storms herelast year, radar after radar after radar.

We here at the house saw that storm bearing down and were screaming: RUN! get out! crawl! just go!

the minute we saw the line up to get into the SD an the announcer going: and of course the power will go out....we knew it was a clusterfuck

The only good thing is: a bunch of people got hit with a good dose of: wont ever make that mistake again!

you only have to go thru it once to get wise

10. Let me give you an example of Neocons in "action"
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 10:22 PM by hatrack
Back in the 1980s, Paul Wolfowitz (yes, that Paul Wolfowitz) had a great idea. He would collect Russian POWs from the Afghan War, turn them into an anti-Russian Freedumb Armee, and turn the tide in Central Asia.

Well, there were just a few problems with little Wolfie's script. First of all, the Afghans didn't take Russian prisoners - usually. Occasionally they would repeatedly rape captive soldiers then disembowel them or cut their throats, leaving the remains on roads the Soviets used, booby-trapping the bodies or luring the Russians into ambushes. But those were the exceptions.

Anyway, eventually word of the master plan filtered down to the Afghan resistance and they took a few prisoners (two or three) and passed them to the Americans. Unfortunately for Pinky & the Brain Wolfowitz, the experience of being held captive by the Afghans didn't make the Russians too inclined to go back. One refused the job and ended up living in (I believe) California and the other was arrested for robbing a Quikee-Mart near Reston Virginia after a few months in the state.

That what these fucks are like. Reality means nothing. Facts mean nothing. The situation on the ground means nothing. But their magic ideology means everything in the world, even when it's just bullshit.

If you don't believe me, check out the book Charlie Wilson's War by George Crile, which is where I read this particular tidbit.

I would have laughed at how foolish these magical thinkers are.
