They better not arrest this kid
HOUSTON -- Thousands of refugees of Hurricane Katrina were transported to the Astrodome in Houston this week. In an extreme act of looting, one group actually stole a bus to escape ravaged areas in Louisiana.

About 100 people packed into the stolen bus. They were the first to enter the Houston Astrodome, but they weren't exactly welcomed.

Authorities eventually allowed the renegade passengers inside the dome. But the 18-year-old who ensured their safety could find himself in a world of trouble for stealing the school bus.

"I dont care if I get blamed for it ," Gibson said, "as long as I saved my people."

I'm sure the Freepers would call this kid just another black "looter".

3. Actually they have commented on this already:

Well, we know already this 18-year old has done far more to rescue people and save NO lives than the Mayor has done.

It isn't like the mayor was putting those buses to use or anything. You done good, kid.

Maybe this kid should run for office in NOLA.

He acted like a good ole American he used his wits and he got himself and others out of trouble. If he gets prosecuted I will pitch in for a good lawyer.

11. Oh. My. God.
Are the freepers actually - dare I say it - using reason?!? :wow:

At least they can't say none of those people are helping themselves.

9. Affirmative defenses
I'm scheduled to teach criminal law at a community college starting Tuesday (if enough students sign up for the course). When we get to to subject of affirmative defenses--particularly necessity, we will definitely be discussing New Orleans, and I'll raise the issue of this kid taking the bus as one example.

(So, if enough people sign up to have the class--what do you think the reaction of the class will be?)

12. Mr. Gibson had a plan to save 100 of his fellow citizens.
The bus was available and Mr. Gibson used it for the greater good. He is one of the few that acted quickly in this whole fiasco. If they even try to prosecute him I will donate to his defense.
Whats amazing to me is the idiots at the astro-dome weren't going to let them in because they weren't the "official" bus evacuation.

13. Personally I think
Somebody should fuel up the bus, and hire Mr. Gibson to go back for another bus full.
