Poll question: Would the response be different if the people dying were white and rich?
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 10:36 PM by Quixote1818
I am a white guy but I honestly think if we were seeing white children dying the response would have been much faster. I didn't use to think this way until I watched the movies 'A Time to Kill' and 'Hotel Rwanda'. They changed my perspective so much. It's taken me a long time to see what I couldn't see before. I was blind but now I see.

We live in a very prejudice country that values wealth and light skin. We still have a lot of growing to do to get over our prejudices. A LOT OF GROWING!

I am not saying Bush, those in charge and much of white America hate dark colored people but I do think they empathies with them less than they do white people. The prejudice we see in valuing people with wealth over the poor is also extremely clear from what we are seeing in New Orleans. We have not learned a thing since all the poor people went down with the Titanic while the rich lived when they made it off in the life boats.

3. I would LOVE to see this poll on AOL
It might make people think a little bit. Their is more than just one huge story coming out of this hurricane. The way we treat poor black people is another huge story that needs media attention from this.

5. if things don't change in this country we might just find out
we have now seen that the social contract has been ignored by our federal government. it has been for a while, but it is now in plain sight.

the government is now primarily used for rich people to fuck over the rest of us. they throw us crumbs to keep us from storming the gates of their mansions.

what we got here is soggy crumbs now. and that won't cut it anymore. the elite had better beware. a day of reckoning is coming and it will make the anarchy in New Orleans look like a birdwalk when it happens.

7. This is DEFINITELY a class and race issue.
I think a LOT of people are seeing that, and it's a shocking wake-up call to this nation.
