WOW, I was at friends and Faux was on.
Geraldo, was crying about the abuse of the people in the Convention center..Not to suprising cause I always thought he was kinda moderate.

But, Shepard smith was going off on o'rielly!!! Saying he wouldn't lay blame but there was without doubt favoratism going on in NO. Said he spent 4 days on a bridge and never saw a red cross van, saw busses and police pass right by. Even as he spent an hour on the air telling the location and dire straights of the thousands there. Many dying.

He said I Know They Can Get Here Cause We Did!!!!

He sounded really PISSED. I mean REALLY PISSED!!!

I was amazed.

1. I heard that somewhere else on TV.
The journalist was saying WE got here. And it was an accusation.

2. I donated to the Red Cross and I'm getting pretty pissed
By these reports that they're not there. Thankfully, I also gave to other organizations like Second Harvest, who have been reported to have a presence. It's just that my employer matches donations to the Red Cross so my dollars went farther there. They have some fucking explaining to do if it's true that they've been lagging in their response.

7. geraldo is holding up babys and yelling at the camera.
Shepard says they are locked in the center and they won't let em walk out to the end of the bridge where they have hope. He is yelling at hannity now that that is PERSPECTIVE!! They are locked in here and the government won't let em go.

This is all F@cked up.

8. Molloy just said Red Cross was kept out of N.O.
because department of homeland security didn't want aid to be available because they were afraid that people wouldn't evacualte.

according to Mike, you can find it on red cross web site under FAQ.

11. Here is the reason they were not in NO, by order of Homeland
Security:

Hurricane Katrina: Why is the Red Cross not in New Orleans?

Acess to New Orleans is controlled by the National Guard and local authorities and while we are in constant contact with them, we simply cannot enter New Orleans against their orders.

The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.

The Red Cross has been meeting the needs of thousands of New Orleans residents in some 90 shelters throughout the state of Louisiana and elsewhere since before landfall. All told, the Red Cross is today operating 149 shelters for almost 93,000 residents.

24. See, I know people who work for the Red Cross
And I cannot believe they would not be chomping at the bit to get into an area where there is need. It would be completely uncharacteristic of them to stand back.

35. I couldn't figure out where all the concern about the Red Cross
not being there, it didn't seem possible until I read this. I find it appalling that starving and dehydrated people were not getting aid because they MIGHT NOT MOVE OUT, it sounds like a crock to me.

Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 11:14 PM by txindy
 I still don't understand why they have to set up in Texas, though, for "security" reasons. Surely there are places closer to NO that also need help.

17. You've hit on something I've been worried about..RED CROSS
I remember when RED CROSS had some money managment scandals to deal with on or around 9/11; I remember how they turned down assistance for people in MY area after the LOMA PRIETA EARTHQUAKE. I know they HAVE helped people to one degree or another BUT................why should I give to them if I have NO idea where the money is going? I sure as hell don't want as much as half the bucks going into THEIR POCKETS.

People will need housing and ongoing care for sometime to come. Will RED CROSS do that? OR will they do like they did to a lovely elderly lady raising her five grandchildren and toss people out of motels after a few days??? That lady, a sweet, kind hearted devout protestant xtian, had to turn to the Mormon church for help when her house FELL DOWN and ruined everything they had.

I WANT to give. I WANT to help. I just don't know where it will do the most good.

If anyone can tell me WHAT THEY ACTUALLY PROVIDE, perhaps I can feel better about giving to them.

Yeah, where have they been with the ice/water, clothes, fruit, milk for babies and all the rest.....in New Orleans???????? Babies can't do MREs!!

Hell has now officially frozen over.

Never thought I'd hear Shep Smith shouting down a spin attempt from a fellow Fox'er. Wonder if his outrage will last beyond this horror.

They were both really mad!!! It was obvious if you saw it.

27. I believe it...
I've seen extremely conservative people, when confronted with the unvarnished truth, sometimes have 'epiphanies'...

I think my in-laws have had a few during political conversations we've had... at least they don't think all Dems are 'evil'. :)

Everyone on DU should see it. Geraldo and Shepard dropped the politics and became Americans again. They stood up for the people that needed it, and did it knowing they were going against Fox policy. It was amazing to watch them show their humanity.

on edit- This whole thing with the Red Cross not being able to go in and the people not being able to come out is scaring me. And I don't scare easily. Something fishy about all of this.
