NBC EDITED Kanye West remarks for west coast viewing
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 11:15 PM by PretzelWarrior
they included his statement that they were sending troops down to kill us but not the part about Bush not caring about black people

Just more censorship to go along with our neo-fascist times.

1. Remember who owns NBC-GE, a major defense contractor
why are you surprised? I would have been more surprised had they let those remarks say.

3. MSNBC has the video
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 11:24 PM by ohio_liberal
It was edited out of the west coast tape delay.

edited to add a link:

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/9147333/

On the upper right side of the screen there is a video link with "Kanye West off the script". I haven't watched because I don't use Internet Explorer.

Edited again to add NBC's comments:

The show, simulcast from New York on NBC, MSNBC, CNBC and Pax, was aired live to the East Coast, enabling the Grammy-winning rapper’s outburst to go out uncensored.

There was a several-second tape delay, but the person in charge “was instructed to listen for a curse word, and didn’t realize (West) had gone off-script,” said NBC spokeswoman Rebecca Marks.

<snip>

In a statement, NBC said, “Kanye West departed from the scripted comments that were prepared for him, and his opinions in no way represent the views of the networks.

“It would be most unfortunate,” the statement continued, “if the efforts of the artists who participated tonight and the generosity of millions of Americans who are helping those in need are overshadowed by one person’s opinion.”

6. I live in Phoenix
and they didn't edit out anything as far as I know. He plainly said the Bush didn't care about black people.

Totally amazing!

...immediately! I want no part of them and their Tucker Carlson, or their editing of people's thoughts, ideas and truth. I want none!

11. Looks like I'm going to have to buy his new CD
No idea what kind of music he plays, but anyone who is willing to go on national TV and speak that kind of truth, deserves my $15.

12. Um, can I ask a kinda dumb question?
Who is Kanye West? I have to plead ignorance here.

I did see both the east cost and west coast versions of the concert, so I know they edited the west coast version. Wish they hadn't, but even without the statement he made, what he said was still right on!

15. he's a "word of mouth" musician. He can't catch a break with studios
because he doesn't "play well" in whatever democraphic studies they do..but his viscerally emotional performances connect with audiences and now his political views will be heard by wider audience in follow up music. He's performing rap and also producing for ones like Ludicrous.

16. He sings "Jesus Walks" and "All Falls Down"
Both excellent songs. He's one of the rappers who prefers to sing about social situations, and he's very vocal and critical about the materialism and violence in many rap songs.

I wasn't one bit surprised that Kanye said what he said during the concert. I am surprised that they gave him a mic, though.

We at war
We at war with terrorism, racism, and most of all we at war with ourselves
Jesus Walks
God show me the way, because the Devil trying to break me down
Jesus Walks with me
The only thing that I pray is that my feet don't fail me now...

22. He's also done...
..."Diamonds for Sierra Lione" and been very outspoken against homophobia in the African-American/hip-hop community. From what I've seen and heard, he certainly warrants support and kudos.

21. msnbc put out a statement that the statements don't reflect them
and hope it doesn't hurt donations (or something to that point)

I hope people donate with a message saying thank you Kanye!
