Hurricane Katrina: Why is the Red Cross not in New Orleans?
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 04:16 AM by SnoopDog

Mike Malloy told this story - here it is...

Here is this administration KILLING MORE AMERICANS on purpose...

Story:

Hurricane Katrina: Why is the Red Cross not in New Orleans?

* Acess to New Orleans is controlled by the National Guard and local authorities and while we are in constant contact with them, we simply cannot enter New Orleans against their orders.

* The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.

* The Red Cross has been meeting the needs of thousands of New Orleans residents in some 90 shelters throughout the state of Louisiana and elsewhere since before landfall. All told, the Red Cross is today operating 149 shelters for almost 93,000 residents.

* The Red Cross shares the nation’s anguish over the worsening situation inside the city. We will continue to work under the direction of the military, state and local authorities and to focus all our efforts on our lifesaving mission of feeding and sheltering.

* The Red Cross does not conduct search and rescue operations. We are an organization of civilian volunteers and cannot get relief aid into any location until the local authorities say it is safe and provide us with security and access.

* The original plan was to evacuate all the residents of New Orleans to safe places outside the city. With the hurricane bearing down, the city government decided to open a shelter of last resort in the Superdome downtown. We applaud this decision and believe it saved a significant number of lives.

* As the remaining people are evacuated from New Orleans, the most appropriate role for the Red Cross is to provide a safe place for people to stay and to see that their emergency needs are met. We are fully staffed and equipped to handle these individuals once they are evacuated.

27. I just made a sobering connection! At the Gov's 10PM news conference
tonight she announced the formation of a new non-profit foundation: The Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation and asked that money go to them. (I do not think she made the usual plug for the Red Cross). In the Red Cross site it says that
"* The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city."

This isn't Bush...it is Blanco that controls the National Guard and the LA homeland Security Dept. SHE is the one keeping the Red Cross out and now she is setting up her own "relief agency" and is soliciting donations for it (instead of the Red Cross?) WTF?
Has the heat and the stress driven her mad?
Be sure to put pressure directly on her to reverse this horrible decision.
I remember thinking during her news conference that it was odd that she was setting up a new foundation to deal with disaster relief in the middle of a crisis. I kept thinking, why not let the Red Cross handle that! This is no time to try to reinvent the wheel. She said that the new foundation would be made of a number of state charities, etc...Has she had a break with the Red Cross? Has she had a break with reality?

8. Nominated and kicked...are we referring the media
to this story for reference? Or are we just asking them to report this so the public can demand the Red cross be let in?

Just want to be clear on what we should be saying to the msm? Besides my very bitter feelings right now...

Let Red Cross into New Orleans!

One of the most insane decisions fo the whole Katrina's nightmare has been the decision to actually BLOCK the Red Cross from doing disaster relief in the City of New Orleans. Their website states that " Access to New Orleans is controlled by the National Guard and local authorities and while we are in constant contact with them, we simply cannot enter New Orleans without their permission."
If not the Red Cross, then Who?
If not today, then When?
For God's sake, hasn't negligence killed enough people there already?
These are tho pros. Stopping them from doing their job is like signing more death warrants.

Urgent:

The Red Cross is being blocked from going into New Orleans:

According to the official Red Cross site, the Red Cross is being prevented from bringing disaster relief to New Orleans.

22. YES!! NO More DONATIONS to Fraudulent Agencies ---- if they
aren't raising any noise about not being able to get in and help the people who need it, maybe they have been conscripted or bought somehow. Find out who IS helping in NO and get the money to them.
Find out who is blocking --- like NG and HLSec.

What kind of Bushit is this???

Red Cross (After drinking a significant amount of koolaid.) "Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city."

How do dehydrated, starving people have the strength to evacuate themselves when BushCo is allowing no one in to help??!!

I know it's already on another thread, but FUCK BUSH!!! and I don't like to curse... had decided I would put him out if he was turned up on fire in front of me - and call 911. But after this, he can burn on my lawn and I'll just douse the grass nearest to the house and deal with the smell of his ass getting fully charred.

Blanco may be able to make a better decision though, so good idea. Because we know it's hopeless to expect Bush to extrict his own head out of his a**.

30. Blast Blanco: Please tell me I am wrong...Blanco is behind this!
As much as I want to pin everything on *, I have to let my logical self look at the evidence on this bit of insanity!:

Gov. Blanco Bans Red Cross from New Orleans

The premier disaster relief organization in the world is being banned from New Orleans. Today the Red Cross announced that:
““* Access to New Orleans is controlled by the National Guard and local authorities and while we are in constant contact with them, we simply cannot enter New Orleans against their orders.

* The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.”

Louisiana Gov Kathleen B. Blanco controls both the Louisiana National Guard and the state Homeland Security Department. Through both entities she is keeping the Red Cross out of this desperate city.

Please help me sort this out! We need to keep up the blasting about the Red Cross, but we may ned to shift the focus.

Did anyone else watch Friday night's news conference? Did you notice the man in the uniform to the right of the screen who kept nodding with approval? Who was he?
She furthermore announced in her news conference Friday night that she was immediately forming a new state based Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation and requesting that contributions be sent there for the relief effort.
What is going on here? Is she snapping under the pressure? Why would someone try to invent and rely on a new disaster relief agency it the middle of the nation’s worst natural disaster?

35. Put the fact that FEMA IS LYING in your media blast!
FEMA LIE: The lawlessness of the disaster area, New Orleans proper, is so bad that the American Red Cross has setup their Emergency Food and Shelters in Texas.

TRUTH (from the Red Cross): The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.

41. I was going to donate to the Red Cross but
I happened to come across a Red Cross van at the gas station yesterday and, as luck would have it, the driver was coming back to the van just as I was walking towards the store. I asked him why we hadn't seen and Red Cross workers in NO as they are ALWAYS front-and-center and doing an excellent job taking care of people when something like this happens. He said it was "too dangerous" for the RC to go in because "people are shooting." I then asked if it was possible that some of the people might have been shooting up in the air to signal helicopters that they needed help. He said that he had been down there before and "he knew what kind of people are there" with and that "those kind of people" are dangerous. Oh yeah. "Those kind." Apparently all black people are dangerous. Ugh. I just shook my head and walked away.

I'm just glad this guy is here instead of in LA because IMHO, I don't think he would a whole lot of good down there anyway. After what he said, I decided to donate my money to other organizations instead. Granted, I know that this one asshole by no means represents the Red Cross in general but it just pissed me off that someone that is working for an organization like the Red Cross could possibly have that kind of mindset. Hasn't he learned anything over the years? Apparently not. Anyway, you can flame me for not donating to the RC but hey, at least I'm donating and the way I see it, that's what really matters.
