And I hear she enjoyed the Broadway play.

Everyone should be ashamed of her. She disgraces humanity.

7. I've never understood that line of thinking
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 11:55 PM by ultraist
Why is it worse for a Black person to support a racist agenda, than for a white person to support a racist agenda? If anything, it seems that whites, who bask in their white privilege owe something back to society. Aren't those who have benefited from oppression just as obligated to fight racism?

Why are those who have been oppressed, more obligated to fight against oppression than those who have benefitted from it? Why do some hold Blacks MORE accountable, in this way, than whites?

15. what would you do if a family member sold you out?
That's what it feels like. I'm an Indian, us minorities are very familial and communal people. We share a common brother and sisterhood. We are supposed to be there for each other, treat each other differently. Support one another. The Bushes, Gringiches,Delays of the world are always going to be who they are. You can't change that. You often expect it. Some chickenshit White Republican isn't a surprise to any of us. But, when you have one of your own turn on you, it's almost like your own brother or sister knifed you in the back. When Clarence Thomas, the greatest beneficiary of Affirmitive Action ever, votes against Affirmitive Action, that is a bigger blow then when Antonin Scalia does it. Because Clarence Thomas should know better. How do women feel when they hear that a prominent Kansas State Senator who is female says that she believes women shouldn't have the right to vote? How do us Dems feel when Joe Lieberman or some other weakling sells some of our core beliefs up the river? Pretty pissed off, I would say. It wounds us deeply when the ones who should know better and who we should be counting on, people who we thought were like us, end up turning their back on their own kind. That's why.

22. I understand what you are saying about the sense of betrayal
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 12:57 AM by ultraist
But I don't understand why non-Blacks hold Blacks more accountable.

Do non Blacks really have that privilege? I don't think so. I recall something Spike Lee said about filmmakiing. It was something to the effect, that Black film makers are always expected to do relevant social commentary on racism, but whites are not.

We are all responsible to fight racism, regardless of our race.

24. that's a tough one
I don't know. I, personally, don't mind say if a non-Indian held Ben Campbell (I refuse to call him Nighthorse) responsible for his betrayal of Indians. His votes on tax cuts are just killers for 99 percent of his on people. I'd actually like it. But, maybe other people and other races wouldn't. That's not an easy call.

20. Actually, I don't care for Dave Chapelle....
So I don't watch him.
But, few black people that I know consider she nor Clarence Thomas black. Cuz they represent nor advocate anything beneficial to the black community.

Colin Powell, does work that benefit the black community, but his support of those that fight his efforts is a puzzlement.

I still disagree with those that have said that non Blacks should hold Blacks MORE accountable to fight for justice. Aren't whites just as responsible to better society?

Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 12:04 AM by Erika
She's more worried about entertainment in NY and shopping for shoes than she is the welfare of an American citizen. She's a token that has a co-dependent relationship with W.

I doubt the people of Alabama will look kindly on her, unless W pays them.

She and Lynn Cheney appear to have ice water flowing in their veins.

She's a disgrace to the entire female gender. How she can tow the line for this bunch of misogynists has never ceased to amaze me.

An educated, talented, black woman backing Smirk. It defies reason.
