Blanco is doing all she can under these circumstances....get off her back
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 12:32 AM by Blue_Roses
I see posts here bitching about her being nice to the shrub and not doing her job. Fuck that. For those that aren't familiar with the south this is what a "steel magnolia" does. I'm not too happy with her "nicey-nice" either, but this is the south and we are dealing with an incompetent adminstration who only understands subordinance. Why do you think they hate Hillary Clinton so much. Believe me, I don't condone "subordinance" and have had many arguments with some "good ol' boys" over this topic, however, for things to get done and help the vast many in need, Blanco unfortunately has to tap dance to Bush's tune---for now. Can you immagine the turmoil in YOUR stomach to have to sit on what you REALLY want to say to this fucked-up administration so your state in need can get what THEY NEED. WOW. This is what she is up against.

Come on, she's a new governor--a Democrat--who really does care. We need her and she needs us now more than ever.

She's NO DINO. Her only fault is being too nice.

but as a lifelong resident of LA, I guess I'm stretching and hoping it's right. I have a lot of history in this state and my heart is breaking about this shit.

3. Randi said the same thing today and Randi s backing Landrieu too.
You have two dem women in a Red State and Nagin who changed from rethug to the Dem to run for NOLA.

That is what is determining the response

We all know how the Bush Administration punishes those who aren't in his flock.

5. I wish I would have heard Randi
'cause I feel like I'm pulling this out of my hat. Glad to know I'm not the only one who is insane:puffpiece:

Seriously, though, as a lifelong resident of LA, I think we may be somewhat right about this. Remember, Blanco is a new governor and she comes from a teaching background not a law enforcement background. She's compassionate about education and bettering oneself. Thant's a teacher.

Now she's thrown into a whole new dimension. I think she will do fine but she needs to get some strong people around her and STOP being nicey-nice to the this administration.

14. I don't think that completely exonerates her.
So on the 28th she was able to "send a memo" asking for help. But as a governor, she had powers to prepare as well, which it didn't seem she did. And she should have prepared, since obviously the Feds were going to be AWOL at first. Don't mistake me, Bush and FEMA head Brown deserve the most blame. But we have to realize Blanco deserves some too -- if we don't admit it, I fear the Repubs will use Blanco's culpability as a tit-for-tat talking-point in response to any criticism of Bush.

And, it's late, so I have to say this to those who mention Landrieu. I say, cut her some slack. For ONE thing, she is a Senator, not a Governor - she has no executive power to exercise. For ANOTHER thing ... at least she's HOT. (I know! Uncalled for, but it's getting late and I'm getting loopy. Goodnight!)

8. True but I think she wants to get the people out of NOLA first.
Why because Bush has a way of slowing down the aid for spite and punishment.

13. I totally agree
as I watch her I see so much of the "southern" mentality that woman have displayed for years here. My 85 year-old mother loves her. My mother is a lifelong Democrat from the "old school" of better seen but not heard:eyes: and then she has a daughter like me...:D My mother can't stand Bush, but she always tells me to keep my mouth shut(which of course I don't do) ...

4. I was questioning her , until I read the letter she sent to President
Bush.

She asked him to declare Louisiana a disaster area before the sotrm hit, so Federal money would be available. He did , took credit for thinking it up and everyone praised him for acting so quickly.

She asked for" direct Federal assiastance to work and serve in protecting life and property."

She declared a SOE on Firday and got the first responders up and running.

She listed what they would need and where they would need it.

She is not clueless or incompetent.

she is visibly shaken. Something that is evidently a no no for women in power.

23. That's an awesome breakdown, BlueStateGirl...
Thanks... Randi Rhodes had her back earlier today, and I agree.

Bush N Pals are looking for their scapegoats now; it's just that simple...

These local/state people did their jobs. Stop beating on them, and start beating on the Bush and Dick who can't stop vacationing long enough to get involved in a national emergency!

6. Bush controls how much money is spent to rebuild New Orleans
It's not politics at this point, Bush's approval is so low that, that doesn't matter. Blanco and Landrieu need to be somewhat respectful to Bush, Frist, etc. so that they will give the money for the Rebuilding effort.

11. How about we start doing this....
The Repukes start holding their reps responsible for their failures and we start holding our reps responsible for their failures that way we can actually get what we pay for, not some goofball rep who sits on his/her ass worring about the polls and their political future.

22. She's no DINO, but then again she screwed up with this crisis
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 04:09 AM by aikoaiko
Ok, she's much better than a repub in office, but I cannot excuse why statewide LEO and buses weren't used to get people out of NOLA before Katrina hit. She had the power and authority to do so and didn't. She was one of the leaders who left the poor in NO to weather out the storm. Like the Mayor, she knew the risks of having the poor stay in the superdome should the levies break. They just hoped things would be ok.

I read the memo to Buschmuck, and all she really asks for is money to pay for cleanup and housing issues.

Will we hold our own accountable or will will give our own a pass because of party affiliation? Discussed elsewhere.
