i' m really tired, but i read this, and would recommend you do to-
it's some really good stuff from the troops in Iraq about what is happening here...
"...n early 2004, as the cost of the conflict in Iraq soared, President Bush proposed spending less than 20 percent of what the Corps said was needed for Lake Pontchartrain, according to a Feb. 16, 2004, article, in New Orleans CityBusiness.
Now we watch the scenes of an American city devastated and the response to that devastation. As the reporters on the ground become increasingly desperate and begin to identify with the victims at this new ground zero the self-examinations begin. Should we critique the response and is that fair now? The President's press secretary said that politics should be left out of this equation. Although I am admittedly not a fan of this administration and many of its decisions, I think that there is a good reason to begin this critique now. That is because the failures and missteps continue and minute by minute the damage and eventual casualty count grows.During the election cycle an oft-repeated talking point was that we shouldn't changeleadership in a war and that without Mr. Bush and company in charge the homeland was more vulnerable to a terrorist attack. Although the total force ofhurricane Katrina was more than any conceivable terroristcould muster, the effectsin the city of New Orleans could be comparedto the often invoked 'dirty bomb' or 'smoking gun of a nuclear attack'. I think it therefore fair that the response be critiqued. The administration has been great about putting a clean suited Chertoff and earnest Michael Brown from FEMA in front of a podium to reassure us. They have been less effective about translating their platitudes into real action.".......
