2. They were on retainer for this sort of stuff going back to Clinton

The Navy has for a LONG time had a general construction contract with the company on an "as needed" basis.

Hell, they built Gitmo for the Haitian Refugees in 94(?) under the same contract.

7. Randi Rhodes said today that Bush signed contract in 2004
But sometimes she's wrong.

Halliburton built Gitmo? Boy, does that ever figure! Cheney involved with building a place for torture. Who would have thunk?

9. The contract has a renewal option for every 3-4 years or so.

and yes, Halliburton built the detention center at Gitmo during the Haitian refugee crisis.

This all came out when Randi was going off about "Halliburton built Gitmo in 2000" a while back. I guess to make the point that proved they knew about 9/11 before hand...or some such.

But if anyone bothered to look a little deeper then the whole picture came into focus.

I'm not defending Halliburton, but facts are facts. The relationship with the Navy pre-dates this administration, and was well in place during the former.

And that relationship covers LOTS of stuff, including doing work on Navy bases on an "as needed" basis.

Basically, the Navy has Halliburton on retainer to build stuff. Has for over a decade.

14. But it doesn't settle well
We are all sick and tired of being ripped off. Halliburton has more sweetheart (no bid) deals stemming from the tragedies of this country. They are known to openly abuse and gouge the American taxpayer, are under investigation, and should be suspended from obtaining any further contracts until they can clear the charges made against them. That's the way it works for most people and companies in this country, unless of course, they're in bed with the administration. It's disgusting.

16. I agree 100%. But just because something is rotten doesn't mean
its a conspiracy either.

I'm willing to bet every United States Naval base damaged by a hurricane or other natural disaster had their repair work done in part or in total by Halliburton going back at least to 1992.

and I'll be damned if they didn't announce just that.

Looks like the "Dick" is still pulling all the levers.
