Thinking about Hunter Thompson

I recall when we were mourning his death, a DUer mentioned that maybe he saw what was coming, and couldn't take it anymore. It certainly has gotten worse since he took his life...

He was a sensitive soul, which is what made his larger-than-life energy and rage more compelling. I wish he stayed put, but he did what he had to do...

But I have been thinking this week, that he could be doing the best writing of his life about this hellish of weeks. His voice is missed at times like this. Nothing was quite like a cathartic burst of Pure HST.

2. I agree.

Hunter could pour vitriol down the chute in an almost melodic way like nobody else. I can imagine this would have twisted him up. Hell, it twists me up, and I don't even watch television. All it took was one three-minute BBC report somebody here linked to earlier to do me in on all of it.

And yeah -- I can't imagine he didn't have his reasons. It sounds like he was staring down the barrel of years of decline and chronic pain, and when you get a ground-level grasp of what that's going to require of you, I can see where you might elect to stare down the barrel of a shotgun instead.

Wish I had his gift for shaping some of the crap in my gut into remorselessly descriptive prose, but I'm afraid I ain't there.

I do miss him.. but its a selfish desire.

Did you read the article about Counselor.. and what it might of meant? Referring to a passage from John..
