Who gives a damn what the Chimp has to say? I'm sick of reading his nonsense.

1. Rep. Elijah Cummings (Maryland):
"We have long heard claims of compassionate conservative-ism among our nation's leaders. We now want the compassion."

3. Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (Illinois):

"Much has been made about the slow response of the federal government. A few short years ago, we saw in the Persian Gulf something that was described by this administration as "shock and awe." But here, on the shores of the United States of America in the last 140 or so hours, we have witnessed something shockingly awful, and that is the lack of response, the quick response, from our government to those Americans who are suffering, who are dying."

"Where are the hotels of America? Where's the Hyatt and the Hilton and the Holiday Inn and the Fairmont? Where are those airlines that we bailed out in 911 who suffered greatly because of that unspeakable tragedy as Americans turned away from the travel industry? Where are the 24 airlifts?"

5. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones:
"Americans are expecting that the leadership of this nation, who wants to take freedom and justice all across the world--what about freedom and justice right here in the United States of America? What about freedom and justice and the ability to live right here, right now. Now is the time."

4. Rep. Carolyn Kilpatrick (Michigan):
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 05:32 AM by lebkuchen
"First of all, the people are not 'refugees.' They are American citizens. They pay their taxes, they raise their families, they help America grow, and I wish the media would call them American citizens and not 'refugees,' which relegates them to another whole status."

"I am outraged by the lack of response by our federal government."

"They're finding that the Walmart stores, and there are three in this district, won't take the Salvation Army FEMA issued vouchers...we call upon Walmart--honor those vouchers from FEMA! That is money in the bank. Those people need water and food...we call upon Walmart to step up and honor those, and to even give more."

6. Rep. Diane Watson (California):
"Shame, shame on America. We were put to the test, and we have failed. And this goes right to the leadership of our House, for Hastert to say that there is no value in rebuilding New Orleans is the greatest shame of all. We are a country spreading democracy around the world. That disaster that is Iraq is visited on us...and where are the National Guard when we need them? They're over in Iraq."
