Here's what we can do FIRST THING IN THE A.M.
Call the ACLU: (212) 549-2585

Call Amnesty International: (212) 807-8400

I wanted to find a number for the UN but all I could find so far is a fax#.

Do you think we could reach anyone on a Saturday? And would it be "dangerous" to make these kinds of calls, especially to the UN?

I'm getting desperate and want to DO SOMETHING. Protest, scream, revolt, whatever it takes... How can we possibly be BEGGING and PLEADING for basic human rights?!?!?

1. The UN has already offered its help
Call your senators. The French have been waiting now 3 days. It takes 8 hours from France and 3 hours from the Caribbeans before rescue teams can be at work. Many lives could have been saved already. The teams are on stand-by here. Even an helicopter carrier is dispatched.

5. I'm not wanting to ask for THAT kind of help.
I mean something a lot more serious than that. If enough people asked, might it happen?

Probably not.

4. Found UN email address: inquiries@un.org
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 04:16 AM by stevietheman
Found it on the UN site at http://www.un.org/comments.html

I think we should bypass our ambassador (and even state in any emails that we choose to go over his head) in making any requests, as we all know, Bolton is a royal screwup who would only stand in the way of anything.

6. Okay stevie, thanks! So, what ARE we asking for exactly? I'm afraid
to do it from my computer. I'd rather have a phone number if I could fine one, so I could go elsewhere and call anonymously or at least not from my home phone.

9. I would say, Now is not a time for fear, but for courage.
I'm not sure what the message should be, but I would guess that at the very least I would say we have a federal government that's not helping its own people and we need assistance.

8. Can we do that, then? Could we get something on activist corps?
Maybe we can see what happens in the morning and then decide?
