General Honore is going to be a big hero after this...
This is the guy Mayor Nagin called "a John Wayne dude" who got on the ground, started cursing, and people started listening. He's from Louisiana, some have called him the "Ragin' Cajun".

Apparently he's going street to street, assessing the situation personally, making calls on a cell with a dying battery.

Just watched him tell people to "get those goddamn guns down!" He's said this is not Iraq and this is a humanitarian effort.
He told a policeman (? Not military) to get his gun down, the guy looked at him for a few seconds before listening. Some of the survivors/citizens were clapping for him.

At least *someone* in charge seems to be as pissed as we are.

2. I hope he's careful; we know what this gov't does to people
who disagree with them. :scared: And I honest to God cannot believe I just typed that! How sad is that, that I agree with it? What have we become?

7. There are two different kind of governments. We really need
someone to come up with a word that can differentiate between government under the Democrats, and government under the Republicans.

15. Democrats care.
Republicans are proud of the fact that they don't.

6. No excuses for the troops
But this is how a battle weary National Guard reacts when they are use to being in the hot spots of Iraq.

8. Those Residents Looked Asian
It sure made good TV didn't it. Feel good story.

I heard the General a couple nights before sounding quite frustrated in not being able to get a handle on what was going on...and the question still begs asking...What took so long???

Pardon my cynicism, but that "put your guns down" bit reminds me of a similar incident in Najaaf immediately following the invasion where Marines had entered the town and faced a large, angry mod...the general there ordered the weapons down and that defused the crisis. It also made Good TV. How come I can't stop feeling that episode was yet another act of the Rove choreography.

Nothing like having pictures of a huge convoy barrelling to the "rescue" while Commander Bunnypants is hugging little black girls. More "Good TV".

10. I think this guy is for real.
It's not his fault he wasn't dispatched until now.

I think at this point the Bush administration has lots of PR tricks up its sleeves...I'm not sure this guy is in on it.

12. Large angry mod?
Like Skinner or something? ;)

I remember that in Najaaf. It totally reminded me of that too.

9. Thank God! I would rather have him in charge than Rudy Giuliani...
Some people - a Republican NY Senator - have suggested to Bush that he appoint RG and put him in charge of NOLA. RG is one of the biggest racists in the US.

11. he also did nothing for NYC
he was nothing but a puppet for the administration. it was Schumer and Hillary who did the hard work in trying to get some funds to help the state. Rudy did nothing but whore for the administration and of course continues to personally profit from 9/11.
