GERALDO LIBERATES CONVENTION CENTER...THE BASTILLE FALLS
In a few short hours Geraldo Rivera has proven that he is greater and stronger and has more power than Bush, FEMA, HOMELAND SECURITY, THE PENTAGON, and everyone else.(????) He opened the gates of the bastille and freed the hungry rabble !
(sarcasm mine)
I don't know whether to cheer or to expect that this was a set-up between the WH and their communication organ, FOX News.

1. He came across as taking credit for the whole evacuation from Conv.
Center. I did not like to see/hear this--his superior attitude.

5. He was standing outside the Center directing the helicopters and telling
the people, "Don't be afraid. Now is your chance. Get aboard these helicopters..." Now I am wondering if he is telling people to illegally board supply vehicles that are there to just drop off food and water. He sounds like he is commandeering these Blackhawks.

I'm not sure...I am more than willing to give him credit but somehow I remember how the prisoners in the Viet Nam war were held captive until a few minutes after Ronald Reagan took office for the presidency. Everyone found out what a staged event that turned out to be.

I trust FOX News as far as I can throw a feather.

10. I hate to be pedantic...
but I think you mean the Iranian embassy hostages who were released right after Reagan was sworn in.

22. You are right...Thanks...I was on a passionate, but incorrect typing binge
Thanks for the correction. I hope there are some young folks out there reading this and I WANT them to have the correct info for their own future use.

2. I think we can both cheer for the people and know this was a set-up..
between the WH and Fox News. Now another Mission Accomplished banner can be put up and bush will be landing on Monday, so I read.

3. My guess is the later.
Spin, spin, spin. Geraldo is comparing it to the Berlin airlift. He also just said that the last time he was this filled with joy was during the Iraqi national elections... yeah right.

4. At this point I don't care who did it
or even if it was a set up I am just happy those people got some help. There is time to expose the set ups later if they are that, and it would not surprise me, but boy am I glad the people are getting some help.

7. Perfectly said, MuseRider
You are right. We can do all the analysis later. The important thing is that those good Americans, who conducted themselves so well under such adverse circumstances, *finally* got the help that they needed and had a right to expect.

We should be ashamed of ourselves for the delay rather than crowing over who did what should have been done days ago. But the job isn't finished. There are still thousands of people left to be saved.

16. As long as we don't
forget after everyone who can be saved is saved but somehow I don't think we will forget to hold those responsible responsible.

Does anyone else get the feeling that if we broke into the Homeland Security offices we would find empty offices with empty filing cabinets? I am getting the horrid feeling that it is all a front group and we have been taken for a great big ride once again.

18. My gut feeling.
This isn't based on any facts whatsoever, but I'll share it anyway. My gut feeling is that DHS has contracted out huge portions of FEMA and that it will be eventually discovered that THIS is responsible for the tragedy of NO that we have witnessed. The holy private sector probably just sucked up taxpayer money, paid themselves outrageously and hoped for the best. When the worst happened, they were caught. We'll see if I'm correct.

19. I think you are correct.
Time will tell, we will know the truth of this one. People can't see this much suffering without finally coming out of their trance and asking questions. They did not see Iraq but this they are seeing and they do not like it not one little bit.

6. Last night he was speaking truth to power
Today he's apologizing for it and in all his hyperbole, he's having an orgasm about the choppers arriving and rescuing people---something they should've done days ago. I'm sorry, I just can't get too excited about that now--happy, relieved for those people? yes, but is it an amazing feat? No. It would've been days ago, though.

I can just see where this is heading. I turned it off when he started to say something about, "We haven't seen anything like this since Kennedy....???" What was he talking about? I didn't catch the end. I think he needs to sleep and eat, poor guy, he's delirious and his people at FOX probably threatened him to tone it down today and paint a rosier pic of else they'll deploy him elsewhere.

9. His rant last night was probably part of today's set-up...
I mean how can one newsman commandeer the US army and Navy helicopters. He had to have help from higher up/

I don't really care as long as the people got out but this will come up as something Bush can notch his gun about.

12. I still say it all looks like a set up. Bush then the bus
All this had to have been lined up for days just waiting. I think it has to be that way but why would they do it like that? These people could have been started out the day after the storm. By-the-way where do all the animals go? I lived in the South and at that time I was shocked at how they treated animals. I do not know if it is the same. I have see people with animals. Can they take them or will some place hold them. I know in the fires out West that places take in the horses etc. Must be the same with small animals. If not packs of dogs will have to be shot as they will run in packs and they must be un-fed.

17. Animals
The Houston SPCA took in some of the animals, and I'd imagine other Texas and other state organizations did the same. I'd guess that the various organizations have some sort of reciprocal agreements w/animal rescue groups to take in animals. Here's the quote from the front page of the Houston SPCA website:
"Storm Victims Arrive at the Houston SPCA
The Houston SPCA extended a helping paw once again to animals impacted by disasters in the United States. Sunday morning, crews from the Louisiana SPCA arrived at the Houston SPCA. The evacuation of the Louisiana SPCA brought over 260 animals from their shelter. Due to the hit from Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast region, the Louisiana SPCA moved all animals out of their shelter to the Houston SPCA. We are now accepting animals from those who are staying in Houston Area Shelters. For those needing shelter for their pets, please call our hotline at 713-802-0555."

24. speaking of glory whores...anyone see Shep go after o'reilly last night?
it was incredible! O'reilly was trying to downplay the the federal gov't's responsibility, politically. Shepard went after him, and said all i know is that monday, people needed water and food! tuesday, people needed water and food! Wednesday, people needed water and food! Thursday people needed water and food! And Friday, people have started getting water and food!

He also talked about the 400 tourists trapped in the hyatt, who the mayor ordered evacuated and then sent in front of the food lines. Shepard was talking about fair and equal treatment, and there wasn't any. Said, they were given priority as upper class tourists, essentially. Someone should get a hold of this...
