Advance info = Carnival is chartering 3 ships for NO for 6 months
Advance information from owner of http://www.cruisejunkie.com/

BTW, you may be interested that Carnival is chartering 3 ships (Holiday, Sensation, Ecstasy) for use in Katrina aftermath. The charter is for 6 months and valued at $249 million. Carnival says they are being altruistic even though the per diem charge is $200+.

Best wishes,

Ross

1. Good for them
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 11:02 AM by DoYouEverWonder
I've always heard good things about Carnival.

They even gave all the families of FDNY and NYPD members who got killed on 9-11 a free cruise every year for the rest of their lives.

8. They are looking for future business and will probably
be looking for the more upscale of the newly homeless. Probably couplkes would be my guess.. Families with lots of children will probabky not be accepted. they will couch it as safety , but I suspect it will be because they fear "damage" to their property

11. Let's just wait and see before we complain about offers of help.
It really doesn't make any difference...people in need are people in need.

for six months that is a whopping $252 million..where is the altruism here? Looks like another gouging to me??? We saved HOW MANY millions by not shoreing up those levees, again??? Honey, if these cruise lines house the poor underbellie of NO I will eat my fricking hat...aint no way!

15. I expect a lot of Govt Workers
and Construction ppl will be housed on the ships.

The construction ppl will need a place to live at the begining of the rebuilding.

20. No but there is the 7 day menu rotation
:)

But I believe most of the ships will be used to house Govt ppl and construction workers. The first group of construction workers will have the hardest time just getting basic services back, and will need a place to sleep and eat.
