Two quick questions I haven't heard brought up yet...
1. Did Tom Ridge quit because he knew fema was an accident waiting to happen, because of Mr. Brown's ineptitude and suspected stealing?

2. How do we know who fired any shots that may have been fired in NO. Could it have been the CIA, or someone else, sent in there to try and cause more confusion for some reason?

Pardon my tinfoil hattitude, but there are so many things that seem odd about this whole deal. Will they ever really catch any of the "shooters", or will this be another unsolved case like the anthrax thing?

BTW, I just found out that 700 of the homeless people from NO, will be flown in here this evening. The medical people are already being called in.

1. We know what some of the snipers were: SWAT teams
They were "defending Uptown" against disaster victims. The article is here.

6. Thanks for the link...
Quite a story...

"Before the supplies were pitched off the bridge today, people had to break into buildings in the area to try to find food and water for their families. There was not enough. This spurred many families to break into cars to try to escape the city. There was no police response to the auto thefts until the mob reached the rich area -- Saulet Condos -- once they tried to get cars from there... well then the whole swat teams began showing up with rifles pointed. Snipers got on the roof and told people to get back."

Wow. There will be thousands more horror stories being told in the next few weeks. Maybe we will be able to figure out what's really been going on there. I feel so sorry for the kids, who will probably have nightmares the rest of their lives. If I'd seen the things those kids have been seeing, over the past week, when I was a kid, I know it would have haunted me forever. Hard enough for adults to cope with that, but God, I feel sorry for the kids there.

2. One idea about the shots is it was people trying to let others know where
they were. Makes sense. The FAA said none of the helicopters reported being fired on.

14. It could also have been property owners trying to scare off any....
...would-be looters. 20% of the city is still above water, and I would imagine that some of those owners are armed, or have security forces that are armed.

And I agree with you on the helicopters. It is hard as heck to know that you're being fired on while inside a chopper unless you actually see weapons pointed in your direction, and/or hear rounds striking your aircraft. Additionally, the sound of weapons fired at a chopper will in most cases be drowned out by the sounds of the helicoptor itself.

16. That's an excellent point. They had to do that after Andrew and it
was done a lot. I heard lots of stories.

8. I know for a fact, that some of the fat cat repub stooges in this ...
area got some 50-75k jobs in the DOHS. They ride around town and look at a bridge or a chemical plant once or twice a day. I don't think they'd know a terraist if they saw one. One guy was on Social Security disability and he gave up his disability claim, to take the 50k DOHS job. The guy hadn't worked for several years I understand, other than for the local GOP gangsters around here. His next door neighbor pointed it out to me. He's lived beside the guy for a long time.

7. I also have questions about "fires" raging. Were set on purpose to
collect "fire insurance" when we know most people can't get flood insurance in NO? Owner might feel safe in setting their own fires because they know that "looters" will be blamed. Just asking.

10. I doubt the owners are still in the area, it is the poor, the old, the
frail that were left. It is most likely gas leaks that have been spewing for 6 days now.

11. Funny how it took so long for a spark to just happen along...
Maybe some right wing kkk/neonazi/freeper is going around setting fires. We all know how they like to burn things. Someone like Mr. Northern, who wrecked the soldier's crosses at Camp Casey?

12. Fires have been breaking out from day one, it only makes sense
that the more gas that is being released, the more fires will start, imo.

13. You are probably right...
In addition to the natural gas leaks, they have oil and gasoline floating on top of the flood water. I just hope it dosen't get out of control enough to burn the most of the town down. This all, is just so damned sad.

17. Fires happen in abondoned buildings. The gas was still on. Some of
the buildings have generators going. Someone could have tried to cook something or boil water and it got out of control. Lots of reasons.
