King Co. preparedness mgr. blasts Bush Admin. for killing FEMA (must read)
SEATTLE - King County preparedness manager Eric Holdeman took one look at picture from the disaster created by Hurricane Katrina and got angry. Really angry.

Holdeman said: "It breaks my heart to see that be the case. We look like a third world nation. I mean the society breaking apart."
Holdeman got so angry he sent an e-mail opinion piece to the Washington Post.

He blasted the Bush administration for destroying the Federal Emergency Management agency; for chopping its budget, and for, in his opinion, fixating on terror and not fixing dikes.

Outside his office there's a coffin. Labeled "RIP FEMA." He worries not just about Louisiana: "We could have as catastrophic a disaster as we've seen there. Different. It wouldn't be a water based thing. But, an earthquake! The Seattle fault is that worst case disaster."

1. He's right.
This is the time to be pointing fingers, because unless you find out where the problem is and who caused it, you won't be able to fix it in time for the next disaster.

2. lets hope the sheeple wake up
they seem to only respond to that which affects them personally. I'm hoping this disaster will make them at least pause and think a bit. Having people like this official blast Bush and FEMA adds authority to the fact that Bush has, indeed, ----ed up the country.

4. If every municipality would sit down and realize what the worst
disaster they face and realize that we are all just left twisting in the wind by Bush--all the while funding an illegal war that most Americans do not support.
People should be in the streets.
Especially if you live in regions that are are highly dependent upon FEMA funds or have a high number of indigent population.

5. He does make some good points.
The RW talking point that nobody can predict a hurricane is silly. It's a straw man arguement, becuase no one is saying that * could have prevented the hurricane. It's the response that the administration has control over and that is what has been pathetic. I hope people realize that the response would be just as messed up, no matter what the disaster.

8. He speaks the truth
For those of us who live in what could become a major disaster area, we've learned this week that We. Are. On. Our. Own.

Thanks for posting this, flamingyouth.
