My opinion is that the delay was designed to make sure that the military took over NOLA and to keep everyone else out, especially the Red Cross, because they might be inclined to tell the truth about the situation in NOLA and to make it look like it was the fault of the poor Black people because they looted and got violent.

This kills two birds with one stone. They can blame the Dem leaders in NOLA; they can blame the poor Black citizens; and they can keep a filter on the information coming out of NOLA.

One little problem is that some of the press isn't quite so compliant as it was.

Of course, this doesn't mean that all sorts of nefarious things won't be going on under the radar. It usually is with Bush and his minions.

7. I think the delay was due to two factors:

1) Unprecedented incompetence prevented them from preparing even as the storm was approaching the coast. Bush was vacationing and doing fund raisers, for crying out loud. Incompetent.

2) Once they actually DID get supplies ready, Rove had them wait to enter the city until Bush's photo-op, so he could do his little Triumph of the Will thing again and play savior.

There are probably a lot of hedged bets and "this would be good for a whole list of reasons" -type thinking going on. No doubt they've been spurred to make moves they had to wait for a major distraction to use as cover.

But I think it really did backfire on them. I think they seriously didn't realize they were destroying a major port and various major pipelines. i.e. this has blown up in their face tactically (forget PR momentarily). A shortage of domestic oil production and refinement throws them into serious trouble economically and hampers their designs for military buildups, waging war, etc. Similarly with the loss of a major port.

They want distribution problems, not true infrastructural damage.

Of course, the huge backlash from the human aspects (e.g. their genocide) is probably not working in their favor either, but they can largely ignore it since their "base" is a huge white supremacist swath of the electorate (though certainly nowhere near a majority) and the elections are all rigged anyway.

This was deliberate.

According the Northern Command officer, everything was in place and ready to go by the time the storm passed over Florida. All that was lacking was george's word.

Does anyone seriously believe that he was unaware of the situation? Does anyone seriously believe that he didn't know what was about to happen? This was not incompetence or stupidity. It was calculated and deliberate withholding of aid. The only question is, Why?

My own gut feeling is that georgie wanted to do his Emperor of the Universe photo shoot and then have the troops come sweeping in on his order. The fact that the "aid station" backdrop was torn down as soon as his photo session was done supports that theory. It was all because of his narcissistic, sociopathic vanity.

Little emperor george deliberately held back the lifesaving aid that was waiting and ready to go because no one is allowed to pass up the pResident and he wasn't about to rush or inconvenience himself.
