We took up a collection at work yesterday for hurricane survivors

There is an initiative in Madison sponsored by Green Pay Packers QB Brett Favre - he will pay for the plane to send supplies where they are needed on Sunday. We took up a collection in our office for $465 and bought the following:

2 Gas powered chain saws and engine oil
150 protective face masks
3 Large first aid kits
3 hammers
1 cable hoist puller
2 crosscut saws
2 sets of heavy duty ropes
50 feet of chain
2 bow saws
3 crowbars
1 single bit axe
2 wrecking bars
4 tarps
4 rolls of duct tape
15 pairs of heavy duty work gloves
345 individually wrapped sani-hand wipes
1 heavy duty extension cord with multiple plugs
3 packages of Lysol wipes
2 large boxes of heavy duty garbage bags

I think it helped to buy things up here as the stores down there will be running out.

We are the Madison office (lots of people out on Friday when we did this) of a NY based company, but our manager is also in charge of the Texas offices. Next week we will take up donations through the whole company to be sent to our Houston office and used to help people in shelters there.

I was delighted that a beloved WI athlete is doing this and that my manager initiated our partipation in it.

Please, if you are in a position to do something like this through your company, go for it. Almost everyone will give something, and knowing that funds and supplies are distributed through their own company makes some people more comfortable giving.
