You have all read the stories:

Red Cross not allowed into NO

Chicago aid refused

Country aid refused

Police and Doctors stopped at stateline

Boats stopped in the water...

What the hell happened..? Could you imagine this refusal on 911 ?

What happened and why?

3. The only one I heard anything about was the aid from other Countries.
Condi said they were assessing the situation to see when would be the right time and place.

HOWEVER, on another post here on DU, I read that the US was hesitant because they would them owe these countries favors.

I just don't understand either!!!!!

OMG. A group in Florida wanted to volunteer to bring in 500 air boats

to help in the rescue efforts.

FEMA "emphatically" refused. They said they had to CONTRACT OUT for that and couldn't use volunteers.

Republican Rep. Mark Foley just said that on MSNBC.

UN.F#$KING.BELIEVABLE!

edit to add - After this segment, they had on one of their military experts that MSNBC has on all the time.

He said (paraphrasing)- This is a question of leadership. If the regulations in the beaurocracy required things that were untenable in the crisis, then a leader sees it and does what you need to to make it possible. Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus during the Civil War, if there was a question about posse comitatus or something like that, a leader would be able to determine when the rules or laws are more harmful to the people, the reasons why the law is in place doesn't fit and a leader will suspend it or do what they have to do. This was a failure of leadership.

7. They are searching the survivors before they get
on the buses, etc. Searching them for new items, they may not be theirs, taking their alcohol and cigarettes. WTF everyone, these people have been through the mill and they are going to make them like they are criminals.

9. And, I just read on another thread, not letting them take their pets.
What a galactically IDIOTIC way to "rescue" people who have just been through hell and have nothing left, not even their dignity. SHAME on Bush and all his evil minions!

13. One word: SIEGE
Starve them out. Why? No clue... How could they? No clue...

Last night, Fox News documented that people couldn't leave. Not on foot, at least. People who arrived at the crosspoint to get out of New Orleans were told to 'go back in'. (Crooksandliars.com - look for video of Geraldo and Shep Smith)

Red Cross was told we don't want you to go in because "The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city." (Yeah, cause they'd be 'drawn to the food and water' - gee I wonder why that would happen? :sarcasm: (link - http://www.redcross.org/faq/0,1096,0_682_4524,00.html)

No food or water in, no one allowed out...

Anyone have a better answer?
