BoingBoing: Comcast censoring CNN for "Bush doesn't care about blacks"
Supposedly Comcast is replacing the last 8 minutes of every half hour with Public Access TV so they don't show this clip in the news. This should be on NOW. Can anyone confirm? I'm away from home right now and can't check mine, but if this is the case, I'd like to know if I can take any legal action against Comcast.

8. would if I could...
Unfortunately the cable modem is the primary reason I have their service. I rarely actually WATCH the cable (a couple hours a week), but if they're censoring a service I'm paying for.....ohhhhh....that would make me very very angry.

6. If this is true I'm dumping comcast straightaway.
I'd rather struggle with an antenna and antraces than support corporate censorship.

7. HUH? Comcast and Other Cable outlets
routinely take a chunk out of CNN Headline News to run other public information and news programs.

that Comcast doesn't censor anything. The stations are required to censor their own material because Comcast is only a conduit and does not influence content.

Except for local advertising.

On edit. They have apparently donated 10 minutes of time at the end of the shows for advertising to benefit the victims of Katrina. Anything said/shown in the last ten minutes of a program is being cut to provide this advertising space.

They show local programming during the last few min of Headline News. Not related to NO.

12. That's not true.
I've got Comcast, and I've seen the news on CNN showing the gentleman saying "Bush doesn't care about black people." CNN is using it as a lead in to a piece about the role of race in Katrina response.

13. Comcast has always let a local station have time.
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 03:38 PM by LiviaOlivia
This is not new to me. I see it on the Headline news channel not CNN main. Even before Comcast bought out AT&T cable. AT&T sold slot time to local station for local news.

14. Headline news/Comcast has had the local public access fill in for months
here in Sacramento, CA. So at least here the local public access intrusion is nothing new.

I saw the "Bush doesn't care about black people" clip on regular CNN via Comcast.

21. If it's censored, how come I saw the clip on CNN via Comcast?
Headline News via Comcast has had the local stuff preemption for some time. That's nothing new. But not regular CNN via Comcast which is where I saw the clip.

18. i've also noticed on scene interviews being censored as well
they let them tell their name, where they're from, who they are looking for and thats it... you can see folks saying more but the audio is cut so you can't hear anymore then they cut to the next poor soul.

peace
