I can't help but wonder who/what is setting these NOLA fires.....
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 04:24 PM by hlthe2b
Given the FAA has refuted the story about "snipers" firing on helicopters and planes.... Given the determined focus on the looting (which has focused so much on those with criminal or drug-addicted motivations, rather than those many whose motivation is only to survive), one also has to wonder...

1. Until there's evidence of something sinister, better not jump the gun
Clear, convincing evidence. It seems it's a few looters trying to cover their tracks who set some of the fires. I dunno who set the fire at the chemical plant. What do they store there, anyway?

11. :Not jumping the gun... I simply ask the question...
How are these fires occurring and why? There is an implication being left by the press' focus on "lawlessness," that rioters are setting them. I question this and that is realistic to do at this point....

14. You're asking questions no one here has answers to, frankly
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 04:44 PM by Selatius
Is this merely an exercise in conjecture? Ultimately, it may be due to broken gas lines, people setting fires to get attention from rescuers, to arsonists. The question is which fires were the result of which event?

16. Of course...
The reporting, though offers no explanations at all. One might assume that they could put some perspective on it, in terms of likely gas line leaks/ breaks, or whatever... but from what I have seen, they aren't even asking the question.

2. Arson Has Always Been A Part Of Business As Usual
Nothing would surprise me at this point.

3. I've wondered about that, too.
But given the number of people who were left in the city, I'm guessing there's a good possibility there was a garden-variety firebug among them.

4. I'm not sure they need to be "set"
there are gas leaks everywhere, and even a little bit of static can set it off.

12. I've considered that too....
though there are some pretty high profile sites under fire. The coincidence would seem significant.

18. Yeah
I think the mall was set on fire. But some of the warehouses and the like? I suspect gas leaks.

6. Was of the opinion it was gas leaks
because there was a thread about 3 days ago about how the gas had NOT been turned off in NO. Not sure.......

7. Chemical plant fire
could have been caused by water getting where it is not supposed to (sodium etc.)

Other fires, result of people trying to cook food and boil water.

Who knows?

I would bet on "natural" reasons rather than sinster ones.

13. partially my point...
There is an implication being left by the press' focus on "lawlessness," that rioters are setting them. I question this, whether it is a natural occurrence (gas leaks) or some other explanation... Some pretty high profile locations going up and that seems like a major coincidence.

15. There are so many lies being reported as news
I will not believe anything without absolute proof.

But it is a FACT that fires follow floods-no arsonists required.

17. Tons of leaking natural gas, gasoline, oil and chemicals.
Not much arson required, unfortunately.
