Cool NOLA 9 yr old to be featured on NBCNews
Saw a bit with him last night, and he was incredible! Was just disgusted with how bad the Dome, relief, etc, was said "it is just pitiful!"

Tonight they say they're going to do an in-depth with him on his time at the Dome. This kid is so charming...I tell ya. we'll probably see him again in 15 years or so...

2. He was AWESOME last night
We were remarking on how (if he gets out of this ) he's going to be quite the leader someday. He was telling it like it is ...

4. exactly what I thought
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 05:59 PM by BQueen
he's coming up after this break (only 5 min left, but west coasters can catch it)

I was cheering him on last night -- in his little Spongebob shirt and that tiniest hint of a lisp cuz he's missing a front tooth...awwww.

edit to note he's not missing a front tooth, but does have that adorable kid-lisp

12. Oh, does "NBC Nightly News" appear at the same time on the coast?
I thought there would be a time-delay -- hopefully they will feature him again.

11. Glad I'm not alone in recognizing that kid's potential
NBC obviously saw his "TVQ" Best part of that is that they will probably try to keep track of him and he (and his family) won't fall thru the cracks (i hope i hope)

He is mesmerizing and so thoughtful -- just seems like a born leader.

13. Was he the bright tiny young man who discussed his grandmother
who needed medicine because she was diabetic? I don't know WHERE I saw this wonderful child, but he was SO articulate, SO focused, so mature, so AWARE of what has been happening, while remaining unbelievably calm and patient as he communicated the needs of the community.

I got to this thread too late to see him. Is this the amazing person you're discussing? Omigod.

He will be a magnificent adult, if he's given the chance to live that long!

35. Thank you, BQueen. It was a moment out of time, wasn't it?
I was tranfixed. He made the adults who've been speaking from our tv screens look like children, themselves.

38. Absolutely charismatic
I've hesitated using this comparison on the thread, but I thought at the time, "Damn, he could be MLK, Jr., as a kid..."

so astonishing to see that from someone so young, and having been through what he has endured in the past week -- not a shocked calm, but such a prepossessed serenity... and I think his Grandma must be pretty cool, too, since it seemed to me that he got his attitude from an older source (or he could just be an "old soul")

Apparently they did make it on a bus, but no one knows to where.

He seemed to be doing ok, I am worried about his grandmother though. I agree, he is a VERY mature 9 year old. They mentioned he was taking care of his grandmother. I can only hope to have a grandchild like that.

She's lucky he's in her life, and I would imagine she's one of the fine inspirations in his, too.

22. NBC Nightly News -- the last five minutes
John at www.crooksandliars.com is on the west coast. you could ask him to capture and post it (there's a link on the left side of the site for tips)

Might try MSNBC website -- even ask about him -- Charles Evans -- if you do, maybe they will run it on MSNBC as well (or tip to olbermann...I'm sure he'd love to report on a silver lining...)

26. Last night was more striking
but maybe because I was just so stunned that anyone who had endured what he had, let alone a 9 year old boy, would be so self-possessed and calm (and not in that 1000 yard stare PTSD calm way).

Those who want a clip should contact crooks and liars (I noted above), John's on the West Coast. and who knows, he might be able to get a hold of last night's interview.

I think we've been overloading their servers, though....so ask sweetly and donate if at all possible. (believe me, if you haven't been to C&L yet, you'll be a regular visitor from here on out.)

I wish they'd let him talk a little bit more in the profile tonight, but it was still great to see him again. His grasp and grace will be one of the real positive, encouraging memories I have of this difficult week.

He said she is out of insulin and they haven't had food for quite a while. She didn't look like she was doing too well. Is there any more news about the family? Did she get some medical attention? I am hoping she gets help soon.

27. The segment ended by saying they were "getting in line"
to get on a bus, and that they had no idea where they were going.

They showed a number of cousins also taking care of her.

Hopefully NBC (why can't i think of that reporter's name -- can't stand her) will keep following the family; it's obvious they recognized his charm.

32. Those who want clips -- suggestions
email John at www.crooksandliars.com (link on the left side for tips) and ask nicely -- maybe mention last night and he might be able to find that too.

e-mail Keith Olbermann at MSNBC -- I'm sure he'd like this one. And if he rebroadcasts it, C&L could capture it from that one....
