Were Nagin and Blanco responsible for Alabama and Mississippi as well?
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 05:57 PM by Jara sang
This disaster has affected an entire region of the country, the response is not merely isolated to New Orleans or Louisiana, but to Alabama and Mississippi as well. In other words it crosses state lines. If that doesn't come under the auspices of the Federal government I don't know what does. the economic affects of Katrina have already resonated in higher gas prices across the country. Is not interstate commerce one of the realms of federal government? I just will not swallow the "let's blame the Democratic regional leaders" talking points that FoxNews is shoving down the country's throat in this. Also, where was the Republican leadership in this disaster? Oh no, we are to have compassion for Trent "the racist" Lott because his house got blown down. Oh poor Trent, bullshit, why didn't he submit a bill to the Senate for a federal natural disaster response to the Senate? His state is most certainly affected by hurricanes. The blame falls on Bush, the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA. They dropped the ball and people are dying in the aftermath.

3. Exactly. States and cities cannot spend money they don't have like
the Fed Govt can. Even if this disaster affected only one large city (NOLA), it would still be the Fed govt responsibility. One mayor cannot coordinate the evacuation of a city that size. One Gov cannot run the effort for a region that size. The Fed govt must step in and coordinate the efforts of this magnitude.
