4350 Pills?!? Was Rush DEALING?
Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 03:08 AM by Must_B_Free
Who would his clients be?

Other high profile Neoconservatives?

4350 pills? Why isn't he the focus of the investigation?

1. crossed my mind--
the alternative is that rush was swallowing over 100 little blues per day! Yeah, I know, I'd do the same thing if I had to listen to dittoheads for hours every day. But still...I couldn't talk, and Rush fooled people into thinking he could.

hmmm

2. Hoarding, I guess
If he's addicted, he's living in big fear of a time when his supply dries up. He's got the money, he can stockpile enough to ease his worries.

8. No way do I feel sorry for Rush!!!
How can he get and stay sober if people give him pitty and enable his behavior?

Thats the best I'll say......

If he ends up wanting sobriety, he will have to stop talk radio as he preforms it now....its part of his relapse behavior.

History of detox; twice...He is so hateful....No Bill W. thinking on his program that I can detect....

Does this make sense?

41. thank you, it is wrong to give pity and enable addicts
Giving pity to addicts and excusing them from the consequences of their own behavior harms them. Sometimes it kills them. If we are truly compassionate, we will demand that the laws are followed and that Rush be placed in a secure jail or prison where he can hit bottom and overcome his severe denial issues. Otherwise, with this level of abuse, the man is quite likely to be dead in a few years. Slow motion suicide.

17. He reaps what he sowed
Let's all admit something.
There's nothing good about drug use. We know it. It destroys individuals. It destroys families. Drug use destroys societies. Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. And the laws are good because we know what happens to people in societies and neighborhoods which become consumed by them. And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up.

(after noting that blacks are convicted of drug charges far more than whites):

What this says to me is that too many whites are getting away with drug use. Too many whites are getting away with drug sales. Too many whites are getting away with trafficking in this stuff. The answer to this disparity is not to start letting people out of jail because we're not putting others in jail who are breaking the law. The answer is to go out and find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them and send them up the river, too.

What did Rush say about Californians who wanted medical marijuana legal? And on another note what did Rush say about Chelsea Clinton when he showed a picture of her on his TV show?

There isn't a black man in America that would not be charged with being a dealer. A black celebrity may be able to get away with it in the end but every single pundit would be speculating, accusing, and saying: "there is no other possible explanation" or "what else could it have been for"

How 60's of him! Rush is realy just an old hippie! A Peace and love flower child getting high and wearing love beads.

Face it, it was all about "getting high". Everything was just a necessary front and cover to perpetuate the cycle. My socology book in college described a condition of people to over acheive as a cover for something else they are hiding.

Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 08:06 AM by hexola
I remember when Jerry died - I think Rush somehow really identified with Jerry. Rush did a little bit of monologue on him...He seemed very intrigued with Jerry and his "power". I think he thought they had something in common. They were both "Leaders of Followers." (and they were both big fat Hogs!!!)

But niether, (as it turns out) really resembled their followers. Jerry Garcia was the leader of the green, tree-hugging, vegetarian, ugly sandals crowd...but was a total degenerate health-wise...

Rush was the leader of the moral virtue, capitalist, christian goody two shoes types...when he was really also, a total degenerate.

32. He definitely could not survive
taking that much Oxycontin--much less do his show coherently. He was either hoarding them or sharing them with others--maybe his wife? It's not uncommon for married couples to both be addicts at the same time.

Tommy Chong was recently sentenced to do time for selling bhangs. If Rush doesn't do time for this, then there is NO justice in this country. He was in possession of controlled substances without a valid prescription, and that's a felony under almost any state's laws, and probably federally too.

I hope he gets the treatment he needs...

After sober reflection I am returning to what I learned in Sunday School; hate the sin, love the sinner.....

I hope this brouhaha and resulting embarassment leads to his banishment from the public square which he has been defiling for way too long...

Good bye Rush....

May God treat you with the charity, kindness, tolerance, and forgiveness that you have denied to others.....

20. The numbers are astounding...
Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 08:10 AM by rasputin1952
IF, what is being reported is true, it pans out like this:

4350 pills per month=

145 pills per day=

6 pills per hour/24 hour day

Allowing for sleep, of which I am sure there was plenty; but let's say 8 hours=

9 pills per hour/16 hour day.

OK, possibilities;

Hoarding
give aways
actually using that amount

No matter how you cut it, IF, the #'s are sincere, there is one really serious problem going on here.

BTW: Most, if not all states, consider giving away/selling on a par, you are still distributing.

edited for clarity on pills per hour/day.

that would rival Old Faithful as well....it's the addition of other agents that would do more damage than the narcotic itself.

23. Unde florida law, yes he was dealing
at 5 milligrams (i have no idea on the dosage of oxycontin, but i picked 5mg because i dont think they can actually make smaller pills than that) 4350 pills is over 21 grams which puts Rush into section b of the following florida statute, now of course if we are talking about 10mb pills, well than take a look at section c. Rush is in for a world of hurt. Most likely he'll cut a deal with prosecutors on this one, but I'll just be happy to see his voice of hate silenced.

893.135 Trafficking; mandatory sentences;
(c)1. Any person who knowingly sells, purchases,
manufactures, delivers, or brings into this state, or
who is knowingly in actual or constructive possession
of, 4 grams or more of oxycodone, or 4 grams or more
of any mixture containing any such substance, but less
than 30 kilograms of such substance or mixture,
commits a felony of the first degree, which felony
shall be known as "trafficking in illegal drugs,"
punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or
s. 775.084.

If the quantity involved:
a. Is 4 grams or more, but less than 14 grams, such
person shall be sentenced to a mandatory minimum term
of imprisonment of 3 years, and the defendant shall be
ordered to pay a fine of $50,000.

b. Is 14 grams or more, but less than 28 grams, such
person shall be sentenced to a mandatory minimum term
of imprisonment of 15 years, and the defendant shall
be ordered to pay a fine of $100,000.

c. Is 28 grams or more, but less than 30 kilograms,
such person shall be sentenced to a mandatory minimum
term of imprisonment of 25 calendar years and pay a
fine of $500,000.

hoarding a substance he didn't ever want to be without 4000 pills in 47 days I think that's what was said on the news last night. If his habit and addiction are this far gone, he was spiraling quickly to his death. He should be grateful he got caught.

ON EDIT: I just remembered something. Wasn't there a rumor about Rush having surgery? It was lipo or tummy tuck or something like that. Wonder if there is alot of pain with that sort of thing  Still, you would think he would be able to get them with perscription from a doc.

I hope his ordeal makes right wingers take a good hard look at our drug laws. Maybe some reform will come of this.

34. No, I don't think Rush was dealing
Even though Florida law might consider he was dealing, I doubt that he was. I've known a couple of downer freaks and worked with some more. When the downer monkey(and the opiate monkey too) gets on your back, you start taking massive quantities just to remain "normal" One person I was able to observe(lived next door) would take fifteen to twenty Xanex first thing, just to "wake up" and relieve his craving from the overnight drought. If he want wanted to get a buzz of some sort, the dosage went up to the forty or fifty pills range. Another person I knew was so far gone into his addiction that he had cranked the dosage upwards of a hundred pills just to get that downer high. Both graduated into shooting up, and were dead within a couple of years.

And yes, Rush was probably hoarding. What is going to interesting to observe is when he now runs out. Any self respecting dealer isn't going to touch him with a ten foot pole, so when he runs out he will be going cold turkey, and get mean and nasty. Interesting phenomenon to watch over the next few weeks as he runs out of pills and starts going through withdrawl, all on nationwide radio. Or perhaps he will take a few weeks off to go through detox.

All of this said, I hope the man gets this monkey off of his back. Its not a good way to live, and death is the quick and certain outcome if he doesn't quit. But it is fun to watch him stew in the juices of his own hypocrisy.

40. sure he was but for influence not for pay
He wasn't doing it for the money but to have the dirt on other people in his circle who shared his weakness. It is a safety measure. You have a party, and you see who is into it, and then maybe you get together with that person and party some more. And then you have something on that person you didn't have before.

You didn't think he got where he was on talent, did you? Have you ever listened to his show? There is no great talent required to indulge in race and Jew baiting, any redneck with a sixth grade education could have done the same.

Also, keep in mind he was a high level "drug lord" sending out an intermediary to buy large numbers of pills for him. Think about the penalties for doing that. (Well, at least if he were Hispanic.) People get decades for doing what he has done. The only way out is to have a list of other people you can rat out. His maid was smart enough to log the fact that she was providing pills to your Pigness. Are we going to assume that Rush is too stupid to protect himself and have evidence of people he in turn has supplied?

My cynical prediction: He won't be arrested because he could finger people much more powerful than himself. That's what I'm thinking anyway. Although he might be safer in jail if they think there is any chance he will talk...

$32 million a year and he doesn't have his own Dr. Feelgood in Florida?

No way. This guy uses these pills like others put out M&Ms or peanuts at their parties.

And the other thing, we know he's a junkie - went to rehab twice and this NEVER made the news. Think about it.

In and out of rehab (perhaps court ordered?), shaking down and frisking his maid to see if she was wired - paranoia anyone?

This sounds like someone who has been busted before.
