We. Are. On. Our. Own.
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 06:13 PM by Bluebear

Let it sink in. Four frigging years after 9/11, the only Homeland "security" we have is each other. Four years after 9/11 and the Federal government has shown it doesn't care about saving you or me, just color-coded alerts designed to win elections and rias the sale of duct tape.

If anything happens in our neighborhoods, you can now see that Bush doesn't give a good crap about you or me, if there was any doubt. Let the disaster play itself out while he strums guitars and sips champagne with his donors. Halliburton can fix up whatever was destryoed. But meanwhile, I am going to stock up on a week's worth of canned goods and water and buy my first gun, because we are on our own.

1. I got to the same conclusion
Bush and his administration feel sweet blow all for any of us. He is too busy counting his money.

9. He'll be counting a lot more after this is done.
Pretty sure he stands to profit from this at least as much as he has from his oil war profiteering! Welcome to DU.

5. You'd buy a gun and shoot your fellow man?
I'd rather be killed by my fellow man.

The way "society" is devolving...

Sip on that.

Yeah I guess I would. The survival instinct is still there for the moment I guess.

16. Shooting doesn't have to mean killing. If you shoot somebody below
the knees with birdshot, I think they might get the message, run off, or be considerably slowed down. If they keep coming, you shoot in the face.

i have, and i know for a fact that a person has no idea of what they'd do in that situation until they face it. i was certainly surprised by how i acted.

24. Hi, Bluebear
I read that report yesterday with the three predictions of tragedy. The only one left is the earthquake...oh boy.

But I'm staying focused on Katrina and doing whatever I can to help. Nothing is more important at this moment. I, like everyone else, am sickened by the lack of response. I no longer expect it would be any better for us as long as this administration is in charge.

I think this tragedy will change us forever. I think the people like you, me and the community here at DU will rise up from this, united as never before and conquer the evil that has brought this once- great country to it's knees. I know we will.

I don't own a gun either, have never shot one.......was thinking of looking around this week, am going to need to learn how to use it.

And this is a huge leap for me, but I feel I'd be stupid at this point not to, I have to think about the safety of my family........against foreign and domestic.

Huge. I don't care if someone wants to steal my stuff, but I feel defenseless now. People voted for this clown because they think he "made them safe". Tools and fools.

15. I sent emails yesterday 2 Boxer, Feinstein,
steroid boy & dana whorbacher asking if Californians will B discarded as easily as the people of Louisiana and if we R truly going 2 B left 2 fend 4 ourselves (since a MAJOR earthquake in CA is one of the 3 disasters named in the '01 report).

Since the questions were, in actuality, rhetorical I rotated all my earthquake supplies 2day; checked the batteries 'n added a few things.

20. We found that out in Florida last year
Despite the fact that it was an election year and Bush made sure he showed up for his photo op asap. I went through three hurricanes and the only time I same any FEMA or National Guard was at the end of the third storm, I saw two NG going into a local Subway for lunch. The only other people who did anything was the power companies and the people who helped at the shelters. Aside from that we were on our own, everyone helped each other and we got threw it.

22. Exactly right
I just wrote the same thing to my Senators(Durbin and Obama).

"Essentially we are all on our own except for the kindness and generosity of the average American who wants to alleviate the suffering of their fellow citizens."

It comes through loud and clear.

26. Get an M1 Garand or a Mossberg 590 shotgun
If you had more experience with guns, I'd suggest an AK-47, but that's a bit much for a first-timer. Welcome!

On the other hand, though, I am truly sorry you feel driven to do this. America was supposed to be much, much better than this. One day, we shall prevail.

At least now I know for sure. Any bit of veils left on my eyes have been dropped by this. We are alone. There is no net under the tightrope.

Edit, I missed your line about a gun. We own two, strictly for home self-defense. If you do this, get fully trained. Fully fully fully trained. I know you will, but that's extremely important.

We keep ours VERY secure. But yes, we have them.

29. Already started
I've given up on the "dream" a long time ago.

There is one political party. The obnoxiously wealthy.

We have people that wear ties, and do talk shows and interviews, but they don't run the show.

The money runs the show.

The decision was made. I don't know if this happened in the 80's, the 40's, the 1800's. But it's been made. If you don't have the money, you don't count.

You can sure LOOK like you have the money, ACT like you have the money, but you don't HAVE the money.

Chris Rock put it very nicely. Shaquille O'Neal is rich, but he's not wealthy. The guy who writes Shaq's check is rich.

I've been buying canned goods, I'm working on selling my house to get the equity that this stupid market has granted me for sitting here doing nothing.

I have located an instructor who will teach me gun safety and shooting. I'm in my 30's, and have touched a gun once. Now I'm about to buy one.

I went from being blissfully ignorant about the world around me, working hard, doing my thing and just trying to be nice.

Now, I see complete failure in my government, my co-workers, my fellow citizens (except for a lot of the good people here).

My folks are still in "la la la, I'm not listening to you" mode, so that shortens those conversations.

Therefore, We. Are. On. Our. Own.

I just don't see this clearing up without something radical happening in this country, and around the world.
