NY Times explains why we haven't heard from any Democrats (doh!)
The silence of many prominent Democrats in publicly criticizing Mr. Bush
for his handling of the crisis reflects their conclusion that the president
is on treacherous political ground and that attacking him would permit
the White House to dismiss the criticism as partisan politics-as-usual,
a senior Democratic aide said.

Bullshit. Each one of them are afraid that Bushco has something on them, or that Rove will arrange for suitable retaliation. While not beating a dead horse might sound noble, this might be our best chance to get rid of these fuckers. I have felt for a long time that they are the real thing; real, honest-to-God facsists. Might as well take advantage of a free space while we have it.

Democrats cannot actually DO anything about it, as only Bush can send NG, etc.

So all they'd be doing is complaining about Bush. Simply complaining wouldn't help, and it would not look good.

Their strategy is smart.

22. I reallon don't buy that. There are ways to criticize at the right time,
and if tis isn't the right time then there never is a right time. They could at the very least get their faces on TV saying what they are doing to help with the situation. You can't tell me that those powerful people in Wash DC couldn't do exactly what Al Gore has done and just jump in and help. Their silence makes even me think they just can't be bothered with this.

never works for dems, though

ask Kerry

the CBC, Dean and Kucinich, Jackson, Sharpton, etc. - speaking out right now.

The focus needed to be on the victims of Katrina, and on that enormous hole Bush was digging for himself.

But as soon as our brothers and sisters are safe and sound, I expect to see Congress start taking up the issues, and I expect some leaders to step up and shame every lying, conniving mfer of a Repug in the United States of America without end.

47. I thought maybe the Democrats were afraid that the Republicans
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 07:38 PM by Skwmom
would blame the Democratic Gov, Senator, and Mayor for this debacle. In 06 and 08 the Republicans would argue that the Dems are too weak to handle a major terrorist attack or disaster. In addition, portraying Blanco as a weak Democratic female, unable to handle a national disaster is the last thing the Clintons want the public thinking about in 08.

By comments made to date, I think Rove has let the Democrats know if you start trying to blame Bush, the Republicans will start an all out pr blitz to blame them. Bush hinted at this when he said how prepared the Republican Gov was - insinuating Blanco wasn't (and various comments were also made by others). I think they've both decided at this point in time to blame FEMA. Of course, that doesn't keep the Republicans from blaming the Dems in 06 or 08.

53. As I just said in another thread
I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, one more time.

I think apart from defending the Mayor of NO and the Gov of LA we need to show the country and the rest of the world that Democrats don't just spout rhetoric, we roll up our sleeves, we jump in (Al Gore is a perfect example) and do whatever we can to help the people of LA, MS and AL get back on their feet and rebuild their shattered lives.

We believe in trying to help the least among us. Let the GOP try to spin their asses out of this. Let the country see them point fingers, try to place blame. While they are doing this, we will prove that what we say and believe is real and that we do indeed care and don't just play politics.

There will be plenty of time afterwards to grind the GOP into the ground for the failures. Trust me--the people involved in this WILL NOT FORGET!!!

The criticism is coming from the media and people, which cannot be as easily dismissed. It's happening anyways; why neutralize it by making it vulnerable?

What they can do is be the alternative that the people seek when they complain, which is still a veiled criticism, and also what people really want to hear.
