I know alot of you arent Christians. You dont have to be Christians to help humans take care of other humans. I know these people. Denny used to go down to NO and do street preaching with my father in law. Infact, one year he was beaten by the police, thrown in jail and the ACLU got involved... that experience helped spawn what he is able to do today. He is a Christian that walks the walk.. so does his whole family, a brood that Im sure the majority of DU would shake their heads at, considering how many of them there are. But those kids are good, they have been taken all over the world to minister to the poor and I know everyone one of them will make a positive difference in this world because of what they have seen and done.

If you are looking for an organization where your dollars will really help the people that need them, I encourage you to check this one out. They are there in Gulfport, MS right now and will be in NO as soon as it opens up. Infact, they ran the largest food station at the Pentagon after the 9/11 disaster for a couple months after the tragedy.. I have no idea how, but rest assured Denny and CIA will get into the city to help the people there that need it.

4. We have some of the louder mouths on the Net, I believe. lol

I'm not a Christian anymore, but good help is good help! The Red Cross still hadn't paid out even 30% one year after 9/11. I believe they still have some of the money. I give elsewhere now.

Another good one is Heifer International. They give livestock and eye/health care to help poor areas around the world. I imagine some of the victims of Katrina were poor farmers and may need this kind of help.

7. My very favorite charity group is Heifer Int. I've become a joke

with all my friends and family because now they get a water buffalo for Mother's Day or a flock of chickens for their birthdays. My other favorites are for our little "furry" friends. I gave to the Red Cross for NO, but now wish I had waited. I don't think I'll ever give to the Red Cross again after this.

My mother needs nothing material in life, so her gifts from me are in spirit and caring. Next will be my slightly greedy nephews and nieces, ages 8,8,10. Good kids, but..It will be such a good lesson that they can understand at their ages. I am so tired of seeing all the crap they get for Xmas and birthdays! It's junk to start and broken junk within a few weeks.

9. I made my best friend cry because her mother died a couple of

years ago, and I donated a flock of geese in her honor. The entire family was crying their eyes out. When you really get into what they are doing, you can't help but be moved to tears.

I made a tree of life on my wall. Took pics from the Heifer calender and stapled them to the wall then painted a tree all around the pics. I told my 4yr. old grandson that they were friends we haven't met yet. He was so pleased to have new friends. I had to take them down when I moved.

Any idea when a new calender is due out for 2006?

Habitat for Humanity, which is Christian based.

I won't turn up my nose if I think the organization's heart is in the right place. I'm just extra careful when dealing with Christian Charities. I've had friends who work as relief agents in third world countries that have seen so-called Christian aid workers turn people away if they think they aren't Christian or aren't Christian enough.

I think we are going to send some money that way too. Habitat is an amazing charity, I hadnt thought about them but boy are they going to be needed for the healing part of this. Seems like we have really botched the actual relief part so far, so I really would like to be involved in the healing.

It is unfortunate that there are people all over the world doing things that arent in the spirit of whatever cause that they aspire to help. I have no doubt that you have seen that, Ive seen alot of things in Churches that boggle my mind. But, I also have seen things that have given me amazing hope.

It's just like any neighborhood or cross section, I guess.

You are awesome for not ruling out Habitat because their religious affiliation wasnt completely in line with yours.

I considered myself wiccan for 7 years. I grew up in Texas and the earth spoke to me regardless of how much concrete the poured and how artifical my environment was. The moon, the sun, stars... nature, in general, drew me to a more pagan religion.

I still read tarot.. but shhh, dont tell anyone.
