FEMA reimbursing Texas 100% for all expenses
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 10:04 PM by BrightKnight
FEMA is reimbursing Texas 100% for expenses associated with evacuated citizens.

"The President's action makes Federal funding available to the State and all 254 counties of the State of Texas . Specifically, assistance is available to State and eligible local governments for emergency protective measures that are undertaken to save lives and protect public health and safety. Emergency protective measures, including direct Federal assistance, will be provided at 100 percent Federal funding. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT: FEMA (202) 646-4600."

This is part of an email message I received from Chet Edwards.
It was not intended to be critical.
-----------
I am not opposed to FEMA spending money on people in Dyer need. That is why the funds were appropriated. I am beginning to wonder if the Texas neocon delegation isn't more interested in the money than the people.

Why have so many people been evacuated to Texas? If we are going to spend the money wouldn't it be better to spend in the the region where it tis needed. There will be many jobs available in re-building New Orleans.

Uprooting and widely dispersing these people is not necessarily in their best interest. It is certainly not in the best interest of New Orleans. There will be no New Orleans without its people.

I understand the need to deal with the immediate needs but I have concerns about the long term effects. I would not deny anyone the right to make a new start elsewhere. Perhaps it makes more since to give direct aid to the citizens.

2. Don't mess with Texas.
They should be reimbursed for their charity, or something like that.
