ASPCA just wrote me back
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 11:10 PM by serryjw
Someone posted a letter today ( sorry, no search function now) that NOLA had a 'shoot to kill' animals. I was so distrubed that i wrote ASPCA ( I love them) and they just wrote back
quote........
Thank you for contacting the ASPCA regarding the rumors of a "shoot to kill" of animals in the hurricane affected areas of Louisiana. To the best of our knowledge from the people who are on-site, there are rescues underway and animals are being safely removed from the streets and homes of the affected communities. Those animals are being relocated to emergency animal shelters. We've been told there is no order of shoot to kill regarding animals.

3. The Houston SPCA is (or will be) taking in many of them.
They may spread them to shelters and rescues throughout the state. They've done this before. It's quite remarkable. I just hope there is a chance for some of these poor animals to be reunited with their people.

Is someone afraid that Miffy the poodle is going to eat someone? Sometimes I wonder where this stuff comes from.

6. More good news..I donated to North Shore
FEMA allows animals to be flown out of Louisiana

North Shore Animal League America veterinarian, Dr. Eve Ognibene, has departed for Jackson, Mississippi where she will await the arrival of animals being flown out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana by the American Humane Association.

This is the first group of animals that FEMA has allowed to be transported out of the state by air since Hurricane Katrina hit.

In Jackson, a huge staging area has been set up to assess and treat the affected animals. Dr. Ognibene will be there to triage the rescued animals and will be joined by 100 veterinarians and veterinary technicians from the ASPCA, AHA, and HSUS.

8. Even if I were there, under orders, with a gun in my hand
I would not do it.

I COULD not do it.
