OK--what's their angle to get out of this?

I've already heard the "we had everything ready to go, but no one asked for it" nonsense tried, but it doesn't seem to work too well as an excuse. It's like saying "I was ready to jump in and save the drowning guy, but no one asked me to do it"--that won't wash. Too many people know this was a colossal fuckup. Bush has already said "Brownie, you're doing a heck of job" so FEMA can't be the scapegoat without some heavy media support. Bush's photo-ops are increasingly revealed to be wholly staged events, as reported by German television and via Mary Landrieu's comments on the levee repairs. If the new action is just a veneer, expect Nagin to get pissed off again as well.

So how do they get out of this one? They will try, and they have always succeeded in the past. How will they try to do it this time? They will blame someone or something besides themselves, and/or claim that no one could have responded better, but that strains credulity, and how can they make those scenarios work when China just successfully evacuated 700,000+ from a hurricane with no trouble? And who else is to blame?

1. Brown said on National

tv to bush he had no Command and Control(communication center etc) set up. and Bush didn't react to this. This was being said in the hanger yesterday in front of the helos and table. The national press didn't react to this. Bush should have been pissed off and fired him then and there.

Bush is told by his own idiot,Brown, he failed to get the first priority completed, the thing that screwed all those people over, and Bush is silent and so is the MSM.

3. no communications?

didn't they have communications under Ridge? Why couldn't they use whatever system Ridge put in place? At least it would have worked better than nothing at all!!

Brown is an idiot anyway! I heard he told Koppel (about the middle of last week) that people in NO had food. Koppel said something like........have you watched TV lately? Koppel knew what was going on but evidently Brown didn't!

Brown deserves to be fired........for that matter, they should ALL be fired!!!

2. I saw someone use that excuse earlier tonight!

This conservative idiot sent a message saying that the govt can't go into a state until the Governor gives an order.

I sent a response back to this guy saying the Gov and Mayor of NO was pleading and begging them for 5 days to send someone down there!!

They know how bad this looks. The whole country witnessed it on the news!! The whole country saw these people begging for food and water. They saw people literally dying on the streets but did the govt didn't do anything? Nothing! Not for 5 days!!

I can tell you, I'm an animal lover.......I have 2 cats. I wouldn't even treat an animal like that! Certainly human beings deserve better treatment!

And there really is no logical way they can spin this. The only way they can defend their position is try to blame it on someone else.

The way I see it, it is up to us...........those of us who know better than to believe what this administration says, it is up to us to confront this kind of BS and expose it for the lie it truly is!!!

6. I've made the same point -- if animals had been kept this way

their owners would be in jail for animal abuse.

All of this goes to bush -- he hired these useless "yes" men.

Bad government can kill you.

We really need to pound home the point -- that this sort of neglect could happen anywhere a major crisis might happen -- the Feds cannot be trusted.

AND the Gulf States could be pounded again this hurricane season -- with Gulf water at 90 degrees -- this is hurricane growing temps. So what happens if Texas gets pounded next??

I really hope that people hang on to their anger and use it constructively.
