I tried, but sleep did not come easy last night; so many thoughts speeding through my head – the result of a report on Fox News about cleaning out the Convention Center in New Orleans. The realization of how the entire disaster will be spun by Bushco hit me like a ton of bricks.
The report came from Geraldo Rivera, who introduced a new Fox News correspondent (ex Marine), embedded with troops in New Orleans. The guy was flush with excitement, and gleefully described “securing” the first floor of the Convention Center, troops going in with night vision goggles and guns drawn.
“Did it remind you of a combat operation?” Geraldo asked.
“Oh yes, yes it did. There was a chill in the air, very dangerous.” Said the ex-Marine embed, grinning and almost frothing at the mouth. “We’ve managed to secure the first floor, but we haven’t gotten to the second floor yet. That will be tomorrow. There’s word gangs have formed up there, so we must be very careful”.
I felt like I had been punched in the stomach when I heard that. Fox News then went on to the Astrodome in Houston where everyone was so happy; churches in the area are helping and even bringing in buses so folks can go to church.
At first, I thought the response by Bushco was a result of gross incompetence, but I have abandoned that line of thinking. After all, even as much as I despise George Bush, part of me doesn’t want to believe the federal government’s delay in disaster response was intentional. I do believe it now though. And I also believe that the events in the days and months to come have been carefully planned out. They’re using all of us as one big PsyOps experiment.
There are still people in New Orleans. The National Guard is pouring in along with AD troops. Entry to the city will be impossible, so as they’re ‘disposing’ of bodies and rounding up the ‘gangs’ that have formed, media access will be prohibited, except for state sanctioned Fox News. No dead body photos. No identification.
Those ‘gangs’ that remain will be demonized as the enemy, it will be easier to do since most of them are black men. A struggle between them and the troops will be fabricated to show just how heroic the troops are, while the evil citizens of New Orleans try to harm them. Bonus: it’s a way for Bushco to get new military recruits.
While this propoganda is in full swing, those who have been rescued will be taken care of by the good-hearted American people. It will be a feel-good campaign designed to blow smoke up our asses by Bushco. A focus of the effort will be the conservative Christian presence. The fundies will welcome the displaced into their homes and brainwash them. Bonus: new Republicans votes.
Then, Bushco descends on New Orleans (once the troops have removed the dangerous gangs) and starts rebuilding. They will take full credit for recreating the city and making it better. All of this will culminate in holding the Republican National Convention there in 2008.
The following will be true.
New Orleans will belong to the Republicans. It will be a beacon of their hard work.
The true number of dead will never be released. People will not be able to claim their loved ones.
The Iraq mess will be ignored.
Any blame for Bush will be swept under the carpet as he gloats and takes responsibility for the rebuilding effort.
The American people will believe those left in New Orleans were evil and if killed, deserved to be. It will give Buscho a precedence for using force against American Citizens.
Those who got out were ‘saved’ by the fundies after being treated ignored and treated like animals. People will be grateful for just about anything after they’ve been traumatized and lost everything. Most of the media attention will be focused on this part of the story. It wasn't about race at all they'll say - look how we're helping them.
Any blame will be laid at the feet of the local and state governments. A legitimate investigation will not occur.
So that’s it folks. That’s where I think we’re headed over the next months to years. If the media plays along, we are screwed; they’re really the only hope for derailing what’s in the works. Any hope I have for the American people to rise up and stop it is gone and those of us who get it don't have a chance.
