FR: People Died Because Of "Bad New Orleans Health System"
"Interestingly, Fox has been interviewing people at the Astrodome. One doctor said that many of these people have not been seen by a doctor in YEARS, if ever. They are dealing with hypertension, congestive heart failure, diabetics, etc. Doctor on now saying they need insulin and congestive heart failure meds.

Seems to me we also are seeing evidence of a complete failure of the New Orleans public health system.

Fox commentator said in some ways the peope in the Astrodome are BETTER OFF, because they are finally getting medical care!

11. exactly--those commies over at FR
are telling us we should have had a magnificent and efficient public funded health care system. Next they'll be saying we should have had public transit out of town to evacuate everybody!

Say, what a great idea! That sort of thing is right down the Democrats' alley. I hope a bunch of freepers come over to our side and help us get it done!

6. To a certain extent, he is correct. Social inequalities in this country
in terms of availability and accessibility of quality health care have contributed to nearly a million deaths in the last decade.

Let me see if I can find the paper published in the American Journal of Public Health last year and post the abstract.

The tragedy in New Orleans has ripped the facade off the social inequalities in this country. Social inequalities that policies advocated by freepers have created.

13. Here it is. Abstract from AJPH article on health disparities
Woolf, S.H., Johnson, R.E., Fryer Jr, G.E., Rust, G., Satcher, D. (2004) The Health Impact of Resolving Racial Disparities: An Analysis of US Mortality Data. American Journal of Public Health, 94 (12), 2078-2080.

The US health system spends far more on the "technology" of care (e.g., drugs, devices) than on achieving equity in its delivery. For 1991 to 2000, we contrasted the number of lives saved by medical advances with the number of deaths attributable to excess mortality among African Americans. Medical advances averted 176633 deaths, but equalizing the mortality rates of Whites and African Americans would have averted 886202 deaths. Achieving equity may do more for health than perfecting the technology of care.

12. You mean the "public health system" FR would do away with entirely
in order to save a couple bucks?

Anyone think that free markets/private enterprise is going to treat anyone who just lost everything in a disaster and is now in a refugee camp?

16. I Would Love to Drop Their Asses...
in a very poor black neighborhood, tie them to a post and have a loud speaker replay the shit they spout at FR.

Then sit back and watch the fear overwhelm them to the point of breaking down. Their disconnect to reality really needs to be shattered in a very crude fashion.

Their may never be divine intervention for such filth.
