How many NO citizens are there and how many have been evacuated?

I just want to get a better idea of the numbers. I've heard 2 million citizens, but it seems like maybe half that's gotten out and been evacuated.
Can anyone help out here?

He said that he thought there were about 50,000 residents who were in the city during Katrina who have not yet been evacuated. (???) He guessed that anywhere from 5 - 20% of those have passed away.

It just seems like the numbers are not adding up and that there is either more stranded in NO or the death toll will go considerably higher than the 10,000-15,000 estimate.
