Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 01:59 PM by cynatnite
This from a pentagon official!!!!!

I know it's been debunked...it's at the bottom of this article about taking NO.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/weather_katrina_crime_dc

Lt. Gen. Steven Blum, chief of the Pentagon's National Guard Bureau, said two-thirds of the police in New Orleans have abandoned the force amid horrific conditions.

edited for clarity

5. My understanding
is that they didn't show up at all, not that they abandoned their jobs.
Perhaps they were just wise and evacuated along with the majority of NO before the hurricane.

6. Police were not given adequate back-up in such emergency conditions.
Bush acted like a vacuum and let things happen. Bush has all the information in the world on the cycle of escalating lawlessness when there is no police. He sat & he waited.
