If 7000 troops can't evacuate, how could Naglin/No have done BEFORE?

Here's a question for you:

If it has taken so long to get all of these people out of there with ALL THE HELP Bush/Fema/NG resourced are using now --

--then how long BEFORE the hurricane hit, and with the limited resources the city and state had at their disposal, would it have taken the city/state of NO to get those people OUT BEFORE THE HIT?

And remember, that would include the dead people that Bush killed being evac'd, so add another maybe 20-50 thousand? More?

Bush himself declared NO a FEDERAL DISASTER BEFORE it hit..

Sounds to me like the proof that Naglin,etc couldn't have gotten the populace (with even MORE people to move that are dead now) out IS THAT Bush STILL CAN'T with thousands of troops and buses & Choppers doing it for days now.

1. His name is Nagin not Naglin, and..

.. of course he couldn't have evacuated all those people. It's possible he could have gotten some of them out though, but I think the vast onus of blame should fall on Bush and the feds.

would have been something, but somewhere in the archives was a post about the Chinese evacuating I believe 70,000 people out of the path of a typhoon with no problem. With the search down I can't find the post but I'm sure someone here has a link.

But the fed. government can't get 50,000 out in 6 days? That bus story is a red herring...where would you find the busdrivers who are dealing with getting their own families out?

that's my whole point, it's a red herring -- can't blame the local govt, they couldn't have MOVED a million folks - it's been admitted they didn't have the funds, it's why they called the FEDS..

Nobody says he was expected to remove everybody between Sunday morning and Sunday night.

Apart from directing traffic folk to institute contraflow traffic patterns, his contribution to the effort seems to be speaking into a microphone, however. And saying he needed commercial buses, not school or public transport buses. I'm sure he did other things, but they haven't been reflected in what I've read.

Had they authorized removal of the hospital patients 24 hours ahead, however, it would have been great.

* declared it a federal disaster area; Blanco declared it a state emergency, and authorized implementation of the state evacuation plan; this would probably have include NOLA's home-grown plan.


It's a whole lot easier to evacuate people when you have all the bridges and causeways intact and when there's no flooding.
