Do you think they help the party? If yes why? If no why not? I want to hear your answers to this question please. I am in Georgia and I am so damn glad Miller is retiring. I wish cleland would think about running for that seat, I believe it would be a different go around this time. Sonny Perdue got in office because Dems were asleep, complacent,but now think they are coming awake after speaking to many.I believe Dems and actually some republicans are waking up to this mess we have in this country.

1. I don't think they help

They kept one eye on the polls and coveted the recent "success" of Republicans. They wanted to seem more like the "winners".

It's ugly, but it is human nature, or, fashion sense.

Notice that now that Dean has tested the waters (out of courage or pragmatism, take your pick - I think it was courage), and found success, many of those previously timid folks are finding their voice. That's a good thing, in my opinion, as many of those folks really do have progressive conviction, they have merely suppressed it until now.

Some day soon, you may see Repubes trying to ape successful Democrats.

BTW, the phrase "Bush-lite" has been maligned. It really refers not to any person(s), but rather to the tendencies described above, of the desire to appear similar to, or to seem helpful to or supportive of, the "winners" in power.
