Army Helicopter School, Ft. Rucker Alabama. Did they fly?
I just remembered today that the Army helicopter school was in Alabama. I have heard nothing of the army sending fleets of helicopters to help out. These helicopters have everything from airlift to infrared scanning equipment usefull for searching for survivors.

Nothing. No comment, nothing on the Fort's website.

Anyone?

1. I doubt they did
its a training facility. Unless they had a class in progress that was ready to graduate they would've been more of a liability than a help. imo.

2. The services have enough helicopters in operational units so training
units would not be needed. Moreover, National Guard units probably have enough helicopters if they were used wisely to meet all needs in the devastated area.

3. Short on helicopters
A big chunk of NG helicopters are in Iraq. Even when the troops get roated back to the US, the equipment often stays. On tuesday, they there were only about 40 helicopters available (and I think that includes the Coast Guard). The Louisiana 244th apparently had 16 helicopters in Iraq (as of last April).

I did see a specific mention earilier in the week that Ft. Rucker had not been activated for Hurricane duty (Wed or Thur?). But I would be very surprised if they had not dispatched some assets by now.

4. Suspend training and use the damn instructors.
And NO there were not enough helicopters flying nor are there enough now.

I guess the answer to my question would be no then. The largest concentration of helicopters in the world sat tight while American citizens died.
