Alaska Airlines plane & crew turned away from relief effort
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 11:36 PM by ConsAreLiars
A caller to the Erin Hart show was one of 22 employees who had staffed a donated plane with supplies sufficient to sustain them and fly continously for a week without any additional logistics needed from anyone, other than instructions. They were told to forget it by FEMA HQ in DC. The Alaska Airlines volunteer was outraged and angry.

The interview is over but the show is at http://www.kiro710.com/

edit to add:
I missed the beginning so I'm not sure when this happened. It sounded very recent, the feelings were raw, and I did't find a news link. Anyon have more info?

2. Yep. People are organizing to operate around them
and quite effectively, I might add.

5. A take-over?
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 11:40 PM by Blue_In_AK
I am proud that Alaska Airlines stepped up, since it's the airline we often fly with. I hope they organize one of these "operating around" things you speak of. Power to the people. The time is now.

4. People need to regain control of FEMA
and make it useful. We need to get rid of the PNAC wars, and rebuild our infrastructure, including FEMA.

11. We must NOT get rid of FEMA
It must be put back as an independent agency, not part of the Dept. of Homeland Security.

It must be put under independent control.

If it goes away, the last agency available to help after a disaster goes away, and it militarizes every event.

If it was no longer DHS, it would go back to preparation instead of just reaction as its new charter calls for.

6. Just like the Canadian rescue team(s) who showed up with boats
...earlier in the week and weren't allowed into NOLA. The WH concern was "organization" rather than saving lives. I believe the WHOLE SINFUL DEBACLE OF UNNECESSARY CRUELTY AND DEATH in NOLA comes down to Bush** pouting because Blanco wouldn't let him federalize rescue operations from the start. Bush** stomped his foot and turned his back on NOLA, delaying help, just to SHOW HER.

He is a petty, small man who cares about no one so much as himself.

7. More evidence to keep for future reference
FEMA, under the auspices of Homeland Security, continually refused to allow any aid into the area. Both the head of FEMA and Homeland Security are lethally incompetent.

10. This seems to be new news.
No online source yet that I can find.

Erin Hart plans to follow up with American Airlines and FEMA HQ tomorrow.

15. They are just cogs in the machine.
The purpose behind the machine is the problem.

19. well, it's certainly obvious by now that FEMA is not incompetent . . .
what they're doing they're doing on purpose, including impeding the rescue effort at every turn . . . and they know EXACTLY what the likely results will be (i.e. more dead black folks) . . .

this is not incompetence, it is not negligence, it is not lack of coordination or leadership . . . it is murder . . .
