The disgusting laughter from this mostly-GOP audience, which was heard after Poppy said that his son can "take the criticism" and that if anyone criticizes W around Babs they'll "need a flak jacket," ended abruptly when Clinton started speaking some truth, too.

Ironically, Poppy has identified the heart of the problem that he helped to create. George H.W. was an absent father during most of W's youth, leaving the discipline to Babs. W was not held accountable unless he did something that embarassed his parents personally (like asking Babs' good friend at an Xmas party, "So what's sex like after 50?"). Otherwise, he's been given a free pass, has not had to consider the consequences of his injuries, or even feel a decent amount, if any, of remorse. They've protected him and now he feels he's omnipotent. Babs will continue to protect him as he takes the rest of us into the depths of Hell. She is as much of our problem as he is.

IMNSHO, Clinton wasn't playing "gotcha" with Bush Sr., dissing Smirk or anything remotely like that. He was talking about this new charity initiative for Katrina. Nothing else. Partly because (like it's been reported in a number of places) on a personal level, Clinton and the Bushs like each other. Another reason, IMNSHO, Clinton also believes that he needs to be "above the fray", both because he is a former President of the US (rather than President of the Dems) and because he thinks it's a better political strategy for Hillary and the Dem party.
