Please Don't Throw Me In The Briar Patch
I have been watching this fiasco very carefully, and it just seems to me that the criminal lack of response is more than incompetence. It appears deliberate. So for what reason?

America views thousands of stranded black people, crying for help that does not come. The calls of racism begin. Condisleeza comes down and says...no its not racism (don't throw me in the briar patch).

Is this what Bushco was after? Trying to reactivate the race riots that happened long ago. To give the government an excuse to declare marshall law all over the place.

Yes, I know, tin foil hat in place, but SOMETHING was behind this.

1. I think they would rather risk the negatives to resurrect ** than to
continue letting his numbers slide. I think they were hoping it would be their 9/11 and that he would emerge victorious. If the media continues to whitewash this catastrophe, they would have been right.

3. What's behind this is a
heartless uncaring administration that only caters to their "have & have mores" base. Anyone who can't afford a $2500 a plate fundraising dinner doesn't matter to these sub-humans.

4. The delay was certainly deliberate, but it's hard to imagine why.
My theory is that they simply DON'T believe government should help people, and playing guitar and buying shoes during the hurricane aftermath is a way of demonstrating that very point. They certainly don't want to help a bunch of people who DIDN'T VOTE FOR HIM. "See? That's what you get. Kiss my butt and maybe I'll help you next time."

Bush is ALL ABOUT helping his friends and hurting his enemies.

Also, it's a way of bringing a little Iraq to the US, with its attendant contracts and pocket lining...

This was my thought. The government's job is now to help the rich get richer and to start wars.

8. Yep. If you remember, during Clinton, the right wing claimed that
FEMA was just another big entitlement program.

That kind of thinking is NOT in line with the majority of Americans, of both parties. The least we expect from govt is to protect our borders from invaders and handle natural disasters. The LEAST.

13. They don't believe in helping PEOPLE ..

They do however believe in big subsidies for the energy industry. And of course they believe in big subsidies to industry.

5. I wondered about trying to reactivate the race riots, too.
Most black people probably realize that they would be on their own if anything like that happened. More innocents would die.

10. The insensitive reaction to the needs of poor black people plays
very well in freeperville.
The slow response is also a cover for the lack of necessary men and equipment to respond. Proof lies in the fact that some NG troops are being brought back from Iraq to help.
We have not yet seen the small outlying communities that have been decimated and have yet to see ANY support.

11. When I first heard this theory ...

When I first heard this theory, on DU and on Randi Rhodes ... I thought it was tin hat. Now we are hearning reports that FEMA was actively turning away aid. Team this with the mayor's reports that the Coast Guard called off the levee sandbagging efforts (to stop the city from flooding) and we see an active campaign by Homeland Secruity to MAKE SURE that the city of New Orleans was flooded and that the locals would be COMPLETELY overwhelmed.

Democrats in a RED STATE. Haley Barbour got all the help he could get. While the mayor of NO was howling that he could not get in contact with the president, Haley Barbour gladly responded that he had talked to the president THREE TIMES in one day (he obviously didn't get the memo).

This is Karl Rove's ultimate political revenge. If you vote Democrat, they will withold (and actively stop) federal disaster aid until it is too late.

This is not tin hat. The locals are telling us. And the press just has not gotten the memos yet to suppress these types of accounts.

12. class warfare
With Bushco, it's class warfare.
Anyone under the top five % are serfs to these people.
I don't think their incompetence is intentional. They aren't that smart. Their incompentence is resulting in calamity as chaos rises to fill the void of leadership.
Their only intention is single-party rule - the party being the wealthiest class.

14. Speaking of tin foil....
What if this is about oil and imminent domain. What if the feds are trying to seize the port of New Orleans, the only port capable of handling the super tankers, and also in the course of rebuilding, they build new refineries all along the devastated gulf coast. That is something environmentalists and others have fought long and hard to prevent. This could be one factor in Gov Blanco's resistance to allow federal control in LA. I know that is pretty serious tin foil hat but given what this admin has done, and wants to do, I wonder.

15. As a white man, Bush has gave good reason for black people
to riot. I hope and pray the black people understand there are one hell of a lot of whites in this country that are just as upset! Many feel Bush's response to Hurricane victims was a slap to the poor, white and black..

16. Saw a lot of possible non-voting faces among the trapped and dying...
The elderly of all races in rest homes seldom vote. Some of the poorest are too busy to vote, and possibly don't believe anymore that it matters.

And the day old infants and little children...well...
