How long will it take for CBS coverage of the US Open to mention Katrina?
Fifteen minutes into the US Open coverage and noone has even mentioned a word into it. For god sakes, I had NBC's NASCAR on in the background last night and it was being talked about by the drivers who pleaded NASCAR fans to donate and help "ALL our brothers and sisters in Louisiana and Mississippi" and the opening prayer was all about the tragedy (was not pro-Bush.. it asked for "our loud, please lend some wisdom to our leaders in Washington in this time of tragedy"). So why is the US Open not even mentioning it, pluging donating, etc.? Disgrace.

1. They mentioned it multiple times yesterday
And I only saw about 20 minutes worth of coverage.

2. It's disgraceful, and expected in this fucked up culture.
I guess some things just take precedence over others.

:sarcasm:

3. Okay, it just mentioned it when it came back from commercial.
"We encourage you to continue contributing to the ongoing relief efforts."

4. With all due respect,
they've covered it several times an hour for days and have had several high-profile players involved in asking for donations.

Not sure what else you expect.

5. They have mentioned it numerous times.
They are also broadcasting appeals for Red Cross donations that many of the top players have taped (I have seen Andre Agassi, Maria Sharapova, Kim Clijsters, Lindsay Davenport). John McEnroe pledge $25,000 on air and challenged Ted Robinson, the broadcaster with him, to get out his checkbook, essentially forcing the guy to say he would donate. Serena Williams announced on court that she was donating $100 per ace she serves for the rest of the year to the fund, and later said she would double that amount. Zina Garrison (former player, Davis Cup captain) and Venus Williams are selling yellow shoe laces (which Venus is wearing during her matches) to raise funds. That's only the action I know about.
