I've decided REFUGEE does fit. They are fleeing political
persecution.

Those people are being persecuted by the Bush Admin because the Gov would not give up her constitutional rights.

This is a class war, they are fleeing the class war. The situation in NOLA as it relates to Blacks has long been a sore. This storm ripped the scab off. NOLA's blacks have been lost in this class war now everyone can see.

So maybe it does fit. I've come to think of it as NOLA blacks and lower class were political prisoners of a class war that lost. Now they are reaching out to move to a better way of life.

3. HELL FUCKING YEAH! I wish the Black leaders could wrap their
heads around this concept. Refugees is way more powerful. Who knew American citizens would ever become refugees.

7. I agree
I was PROUD of the media calling them refugees, almost from the beginning.

They have no HOMES, they are displaced from political representation. IMHO, they ARE refugees. IMHO, that is a more powerful term than anything else they could be called. Because Americans shouldn't BE refugees in America.
