Zoo Animals Treated BETTER Than Poor Blacks in New Orleans (Literally)
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 11:56 AM by nashuaadvocate
There's now hard proof of that claim.

(Jump-link here; original source here).

Let no one say--ever again--that poor blacks in New Orleans were treated as even the equivalent of animals.

No, they were treated far worse, as Reuters now confirms.

So--that part of the debate is hereby OVER.

1. Blacks, and poor of all races in NOLA have been left to die...
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 12:07 PM by hlthe2b
For this, there must be a tremendous price to be paid for those responsible. THere must be a long term emphasis on removing the impact and bigotry toward race and class in this country.

But, here is the "but." The animals should be provided for as well. It shouldn't be a choice. That includes the pets. Caring for people should not leave them forever to live the guilt of those they left behind-be it human friends and family, or their beloved pets.

2. I have no problem with the animals being treated well
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 12:04 PM by LostinVA
Actually, I applaud it, especially considering how badly the NO's pets have suffered and died. However, the EVACUEES should definitely have been treated like humans, and not rabid dogs...

3. yes.. at its base this underscores competent versus incompetent
planning and response. Part of ensuring competency is a requirement that one "gives a damn." Plain and simple....

4. Of course. The zoo animals are valuable property.
There needs to be a special icon for truthful sarcasm.

The loss of the zoo animals would have cost the zoo a lot of money, and the zoo does not have the responsibility to care for any of the population of N.O.

Very sad. I have maintained in other threads that people should come first over animals (puppies & kittens) and have been called a hater, freeper, and worse because of it.

5. The animals deserved to be saved. Their keepers obviously
had plans. Nothing like plans can ever be found at this WH. Woefully incompetent is the Stump's middle name.

6. Just to be clear...
...I am an animal-lover.

The point of the post is to emphasize that, well, people are at least as important as animals, and should be treated that way.

Bush failed that basic test, here.

7. I remember... just a day before the hurricane hit...
trying tracking down information about the plans for animals at the zoo and at various shelters. I did this because I assumed they would be the worst hit, since their plans could not have been as effective as the plans devised to save human lives. I didn't, for one second, think that the zookeepers and the individuals running animal shelters would have had it more together than our own federal government.
Insane. Just insane.
